I have gone to the thread you were showing your engine porn and I have noticed something, why have you got black DI if you are running T5? You cannot use black DI with T5, red DI has been designed to detect knock through the spark plugs, so it is not safe to run with a black one!

It is not that straight forward, if you have got a VSS code which is responsible for the immobiliser you would not start the engine after a swap. Another thing is that the ECU came from 9000 Aero, which has got 2.3l engine and TD04 turbocharger, when you are running T25 with 2.0l. It would not be to wise just to stick it in then.

I've had numerous people say that and loads say you can. I've had the black di on there for a little over 2 years now and had no problems thus far. The saying is, you can't use a red di on T7 but you can use a black di on T5. Ask about m8 lol

You might not see any problems with a standard setup, as your T25 is not blowing too much air in so the possibility of the knock is lower, when you go for Stage 1 your turbo will be producing much higher pressure and knok may accure... then your black DI will not help. Anyway it is your car...

I may still get a red di anyway. Keep the black as a spare. Anyone selling 1 quite cheapish lol.

If you look on the same thread for cold air intakes, you'll see nemesismoo and his 9-3GT running 484bhp and 483ft lb torque with a black di and yes its a T5. Black di fitted by saab over 4 years ago.

Do you need to disconnect the battery before removing the ECU?

If so, I have a 9-5 is there the need to put a radio code back in when you reconnect?

cheers

I didn't do either, just lifted the bonnet, unscrewed, yanked, bolted back in, started car, listened to radio.

Radio does not need a code. It's married to the car. Radio needs divorcing if you want to move it to another car, but staying in the original car won't cause any problem.

If you leave the battery disconnected a long time - like several days - you may need to reprogram the radio preset buttons.
