Well after playing around with an old 9-5 window switch pack to help Deevee out with some pics the other day, mines packed up now.
All windows work except the near side front one, but I can hear the motor clicking when I pull the switch into the raise position, but no click when the switch is pressed into the lower position.
So Im thinking dirty contacts in the switch pack, same problem Dave had with his 9-5's drivers window.

I thought I would do a how to thread with lots of pics to show other 9-5 owners how to remove, clean & replace the switch pack.
Reason being because some people might assume theres something wrong with the electric window motor as the other windows are working ok, & then start hacking away at the door trying to find a wiring or motor problem, so this is an easy & quick fix before shelling out mega bucks on other parts that may not be needed.

So, heres the switch pack in situ.



Best way to get it out is to remove the silly coin holder above the switch,



& pop the begger out from behind with ones fingers.



Then press in the tab on the wiring plug & pull the wiring plug downwards, its sort of hindged so it swings down & then just pulls out.





Then take it indoors & warm it up abit as the plastic is very thin & it will break if you try to open the switch pack up when its cold.

Here are the clips/lugs that told the top & bottom pieces to the body of the switch.





With a screwdriver its easy enough to prise the two plastic parts away from the switch body leaving you with this.



Then you need to remove the switches by popping them upwards with a screwdriver.





Then press the innards downwards & the complete switch PCB falls out of the bottom.



There are 4 square clear plastic rockers that the switches fit over & these just pop out giving perfect access to the metal contacts.



The metal contacts just lift out so you can clean all contact areas with some white spirits & cotton buds.





Mine were black (the pics were taken after I'd cleaned them all up) with dirt, fluff & all kinds of crud. I cleaned all 4 & put it all back together & refitted it to the car...BINGO.
All windows working as they should.

You should have ended with the Haynes manual special - refitting is the reverse of removal!

Now Johno - we could really do for you to have a c900 weekend car and start pulling that apart- your write ups are great!!

Ive been after doing that for years, one day matey, one day.
I wished I'd kept a photo blog of all the jobs I did on my 9000's I cant remember how I did them now!

a bit off topic, but anyone know where I can get a coin holder from, i just bought a saab 95 and its missing and looks hideous. Actually didnt know what was missing till i saw this photo, so thanks for posting that anyway

Cracking write-up matey. I've just had to do mine and this thread was invaluable.

Could i possibly add that only one side of the contact has power going through it and this is the side that will go black. If anyone finds that their little contacts are very black and even pitted like mine were, they are completely reversible and can be put back in with the unused contact where the black side was.

Can any one help :-

I have a euro spec 2005myr 9-5 Vector 1.9 Petrol and the passenger side elec/window works but will not operate on the auto close function, also the wing mirror will not retract.

Would any one have any thoughts on the cause ?...or have a copy of the wiring diagram to both circuits.

Any help on this would be much appreciated

Genius! Thank you very much for the detail instructions. I was able to fix my rear window switch in less than an hour. My only other comment would be that when I removed the individual switches they were really difficult to pry off and in doing so I noticed some tiny pieces of black plastic had broken off. The switches went back on ok and seem to be staying in place so I'm not sure what the little black pieces did.

Brilliant! Cloudy Sunday morning in Dallas, TX and window stops working. After taking the oor apart and finding all good decided it might be the motor and lots of $ but after a google search and looking over this post we're back in buisness. You rule!

Returned home at10pm wet dark and v cold -2 with drivers window sunk into the door.
My lovely wife found your guide to fault finding/fixing electric windows on Saab95's and it was great! Really easy to follow with the step by step photos. It would've been. A real problem with the window down all night, so thanks!
Btw, if any one else has a similar problem, the switch at some point has probably been stuck down, because the contact had arced and had burnt through the side of the plastic housing.

Totally saved my life with this post awesome job. My switch went about 6 months ago. I got the local garage to fit a used replacement. This cost a fortune as I live in London and everything is expensive. Anyway the day before New Years Eve mine went again passenger side. I had to drive 200 miles with the window taped up with a polythene John Lewis bag. Got home took it out and cleaned as suggested, mine was no way near as clean as yours by the way, even after cleaning it. Put it back in and hey presto window working again. I did however managed to snap the on off switch as I took it off, think someone may have done this before and it was weakened. Never mind I may buy a completely new switch off Ebay as they are dead easy to fit. Depends if it looks awful when I stick it back on with super glue. May live with it, we will see. Also the switch that broke did not move as well as the others even after cleaning. Do not let this put you off though, give it a go because mine now works a treat.

dont know if this is the right place to post this as im a complete putz,,, but would like to say a big thanks to johnno for detailed info on the above,,, tried it and it worked and i feel king cos like i said im a complete PUTZ! jOHNNO U THE MAN!!!

Just saved me a 500$ replacement of the switch which the garage suggested. This one only worked for 2 years. I asked for a warranty replacement which they refused, but instead charged me 80$ for diagnostics. Fixed the switch myself in half an hour by your description. PERFECT!

Hello, sounds really useful but I can't see the bleddy pictures! Can some1 tell me why I cannot see any of Johnos photos?! I am using Safari but I have had this problem using PCs as well. Have they been deleted because this post is so old? If so, Johno can you email them to me?
