I cannot believe how desperate and rich those Americans are who would pay £400 for the Type 8 on Ebay! if I was a scum bag I would sell type 7 as type 8

I have proof that the type 8 primary gears do indeed give 28mph@1000rpms, 70mphs was reading bang on 2500rpms, my friends car has GPS and cruise control so I asked him to do bang on 70mph and I would match his speed, the speedometer appears to be accurate which surprised me, the only question is how accurate is the rpm gauge on the c900?

It's electronic, driven from the ignition, which does tend to have a reasonably good idea as to how quickly the engine's revolving.

it depends what diff you have in. the later one isnt as highly geared as the early one. so an early box with type 8's is the lowest you could get.

I am wondering what Gear box number (GM #####)you have the #8 primary installed in to get the 28mph per 1000 rpm.

Sorry, I gotta disagree here, my T16s is running on a type 7. At 3000 in 5th it is bang on 70mph on both the Speedo and GPS..Had it on Type 6 before and whilst the acceleration was hilarious I felt it was pretty unusable as a motorway car - didn't help that I had no roof lining then either of course!

Here it is with the Type 7 in France somewhere..

This looks spot on to me

This how I think works out in theory for later box at 70mph in 5th with 195/60 15 tyres
Type 6: 3256 rpm
Type 7: 3037 rpm
Type 8: 2824 rpm

If anyone's put type 8's in an earlier (up to '88) box then it should be 2639 rpm but no cars supplied from factory like this. Probably a touch too tall

My wifes Smart car does almost 50mph at 2000rpm. And it has 6 gears. So it will do 150 mph at 6000rpm. Yippeee
