post your problems at ecuproject.com you cannot flash through the ODB port. only using BDM or CanUsb

here are some BDM products you can use.... you will need a power supply. you can use cars own power supply check ecuproject for more info

ah right ok, cheap enough for the bits though :D
now i must be going blind as on ecuproject i cant find anything on flashing the ecu and what setup you need for it

it's not the easiest site to follow, bit all over the shop. But most of the info is there.

Now, i just need to spend this long weekend teaching myself to solder :park:

what car are you trying to tune???? what ECU T7 or T8???? what tuning would you like to do???

if you tuning any T7 these are the steps you need to make using a BDM

1) solder pin header to ECU

2) makeup a cable rig so you can power the ecu, you will need -/+ connector cables with a 12v power supply

3)setup BDM on your XP operating system and setup userport using the following
http://www.xendus.se/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=34:bdm-category&id=48:howto-install-bd32&Itemid=44

4)now you will need to connect the power supply to the ecu, connect the ecu to the BDM. power on the ECU with a power supply running at 12v. now test and run the the delay parameter
http://www.xendus.se/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=34:bdm-category&id=48:howto-install-bd32&Itemid=44

5)once BDM is set Dump flash erase using the following
http://www.xendus.se/index.php?option=c ... &Itemid=44
when your flashing you need to write the commands like so.
flashT7 c:\ecubin.S19
it is easier if you locate the bin file in C: drive
S19 if you use T7suite to convert Bin
or Src if you use SREC command....

if you dump a file remeber the change the extension to BIN

if you have the error S record fail, check ecu with md 0x0 more thank likely the flash has not failed. i have this evrytime i flash but no problems.

to solder pin headers

buy yourself this or something like it.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=35016

you will also need

Solder
Flux
De-Solder Pump or De-soldering Braid
and a steady hand
Pin header strip http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1500

1) remove ECU from Housing using a Torx screw driver

2) heat your soldering iron up

3) make sure the ECU is steady you might need to flip it over to desolder.
get your soldering iron touch the pin header soldering points remove the silicone crap.
you have to be careful of when touching the board as the PCB wires on the board and peel away so dont go rubbing with your fingers. too much

4) make sure you have a small head on the soldeing iron like 1mm or little bigger. i have a 1mm head on so i use that to push through the board a little too. you need to keep your iron pressed on the board point till the lead turns soft, whilst your heating the solder hold the pump or braid ready to remove.

to De-solder you might need to do so going from ever side. on the the ECU there are 2 points on the PCM thats are always very hard to remove the solder, just push a little harder on these. it take some time but you should be able to push the small head halfway through at least.

5) once desoldered and you have 10 holes the rite size fore the headers, put some flux on the header pins and push one row of 5 pins thought the board. make sure the flux is on each pin and not touching each other pin with flux. turn the board over get your solder and iron in both hands and heat 1 pin and once ehated apply solder, the flux help solder run and fix..

do this to each pin make sure the solder on each pin does not touch any other pin, if you manage to do so just desolder like above and re apply.

try not to over heat the board by holding the iron on for too long. watch some solder vids on youtube....

8) 8) Dilemma the T7Suite MAN recommends using a 1mm or size of the pin header drill bit, and just drill through the solder. he is the man he know, but i have alway done it with a soldering iron.
i think this way might be easier, you will still need flux solder and a iron.

If you over heat the board it may turn ut like this, so be careful

Well Justy....This looks VERY familar! Alanb did mine today and he did a top job!!

Next time he does it...I think he will drill the holes,if he makes a template,it shouldn't be that tricky!!

Reg... The T7 bit. It is NOT a 100% win jobby all the time! But with Alans skill and persistance....Job Done!!!

Spot on!

If we can edit maps etc, is there anything stopping us to copying other already stage 1/2/3 maps and flashin them on our ecu's ?

That can be done with T5 definitely, do believe that T7 is the same.
Have you looked at the resource http://forum.ecuproject.com/

justyjust wrote:Im using a BDM and i have no problem, the only problem i had was not reading the tutorials fully and rushing ahead. But i got there in the end now i can flash my car within 15mins.... i have setup a rig so i will beable to flash while in the car, i will be installing it soon... nothing special just a box idc cable and a small whole in my ECU case..

So, am i right in thinking you have the 10-pin cable permanently connected to your ECU? How do you power the ECU, just turn on the ignition (not running obviously)?
This is the only thing that's stopping me from trying mods to the stage 1 map i've flashed already - taking the ECU out from under the scuttle panel every time.
I know they're in the process of getting a USB interface running on the ECUproject site which will sit permanently on the car's ECU, but the pictures they're showing are of the ECU being mounted in the kickpanel inside the car not under the scuttle like mine.
I'm also working on a datalogger for the lambda values, rpm and EGT's so you can see what map changes have what effect on the road. Simple PC i/o board really, but beng the tightwad i am, i refuse to pay £400 for a wideband/egt logger.
I'm damn certain the lambda values i'm seeing on my SID means it's running too rich all the time it's in open loop.
Cheers,

Karl.

Just to update.

Now running permanently installed USB BDM, have got all modes on the SID along with the 6-way readout for each of the 6 modes.

:D

Currently running 07-08 software in a 98MY 9-5. Now boosts to 1.1 bar and shows Meng of 310nm (mines an auto BTW).

:D
