hi people

i thought i will make a thread tuning my 9-5 2.3T SE LPT MY99

All the infomation i have found on tuning was from http://www.Ecuproject.com
they have lots of infomation on T5 & T7 ECU tuning.

Ruff Guide

What i needed to start tuning

Spare T7 ECU

soldering iron and header pins, you will need to solder header pins to your T7 ECU

first you will need a power supply something putting out 12v or more, i used a bench top power supply but i seen people using laptop power supply.
(this picture is upside down because, when you remove casing this is the way the ecu lays)
Image

next you need a BDM you can pick these up from ebay

Computer with XP or 98 you will need to have pc or laptop with a LPT parallel port, i tried using a PCI card LPT port but it gave me hassle, so i eneded up using my Laptop connection the BDM directly. saves you buying a LPT cable.

you will need to download the T7suite from http://trionic.mobixs.eu/
Thanks to Dilemma

you will need to connect all this up and follow instuction from http://www.xendus.se/ or follow tutorials posted on http://www.Ecuproject.com

following the instuctions you should be able to Dump/download ECU bin / flash new bins to T7.

T7Suite

T7Suite gives you the tools to Tune and upgrade some handy tools, such as Live SID Display http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hS-kDSvmKkk

Here's a couple of Vids of my car running being tuned to 210bhp, check them out.

Saab 9-5 2.3T LPT 210BHP tune MY99 30MPH to 80MPH

saab 9-5 2.3T LPT MY99 210bhp tune 60mph-125mph

Saab 9-5 2.3T SE LPT 210BHP TUNED BOOST PRESSURE MAX

check out live SID this shows you all the info you need on your car. you can add this feature with T7Suite....

been looking at t7 suite and just went :argh: id love to tweak mine but the fear of cocking it up due to it being so complicated. did you upload a preset 210bhp map or write it yourself with t7suite? also be careful with that 125mph vid i take it that was on a private testing ground?
got to admit i like the sid output though is that switchable back to the normal display? or once its programed are your stuck with just engine data?

i flashed it my self its not hard just make sure you follow the procedure, any problems juat ask the ecueroject.com boy's...
you can use the CANUSB device to install the SID Live saves you taking out the ECU, but the Device is not cheap your talking £100 or BDM is £20 and you will need a power supply and other bits total about, £60 but most people buy a backup ECU so a extra £60...

Canusb and T7

Has anyone here had any success with this?

I have a problem where T7Tool and T7Suite both come up with 'unable to open' and won't communicate with my T7 ECU.
I have tried all the recommended solutions on ProjectECU, and nothing works. The only remaining thing was that my ECU was dud, but now I have another ECU (known as working), that gives exactly the same 'unable to connect' and a red light on the Canusb.

Any clues? :wall:

Hildebird,

I suspect you may have installed the wrong driver, my canusb took a few goes to connect, its been a while but Im certain its possible to use the wrong driver. Check on the canusb site...

Make sure you are using media player before connecting canusb to the ecu, dont ask why .....

For me ecu mapping is a dark art, there is lots of reading on the ecuproject which can point you in the right direction however using BINs you have altered without suitable engine monitoring kit is risky.

I am happy to change BINs in my car, but wont consider using one I have altered prior to fitting egt gauge/lambda/wideband etc, I have them they are on my long list of jobs to do

Some reading if youve not seen it before

What is your current hardware setup ?

Im using a BDM and i have no problem, the only problem i had was not reading the tutorials fully and rushing ahead. But i got there in the end now i can flash my car within 15mins.... i have setup a rig so i will beable to flash while in the car, i will be installing it soon... nothing special just a box idc cable and a small whole in my ECU case..

My current setup Saab 9-5 SE 2.3T LPT
cobra pipe/ jr filter / forge Valve / stock exhaust
Running at 230Bhp+
Aero bin conversion

i was running a stage3 on stock hardware WOW its FAST but i changed the bin to have my turbo.

looking to upgrade 3" downpipe / Turbo TD04
this will bring me up to 260Bhp plus :corn:

happy tunning

can you use any t7 box to use to remap? ie. can you use a t7 box from a 3.ov6 to remap with t7suite to use in a 2.0 lpt? i presume you can since your changing all the values anyway, but just wondered.... im trying to get my head round this t7suite stuff before dipping my toe in

Correct.

The Hirsch ones have an internal piggyback board on them which can't be bypassed

well im about ready to try frying some ecu's. silly question time: do you have to connect all the power and ground pins highlighted in the picture? Also, what do you do with the can hi/low pins? I'm sure by asking this it means im not ready to do it, but i sooooo wanna learn how to do this properly.

You only Use HI and LOW CAN and RED and BLACK if you are using a CANDevice. if you are using a BDM then its just the LIVE red and Neutral Black. Power supply needs to be 12V or more, no more than 14v 15v but try and keep it 12volt just over. the ECU should take avout 1 1/2 AmPs.....

if anyone needs a T7 ECU i have a Spare untouched waiting for a Owner

I have a 400 quid 9-5 2.3 lpt that I've tuned. I first fitted a TD04 and then a 3" downpipe. It's probably making about 260 bhp now that I've tuned the ECU. There's more to come with the bigger injectors I have. Oh and it now has a B234 engine... T7 tuning is more involved than t5 tuning but, with care, great results are possible.

If I have an 04 Aero, do I need an Aero ecu as a base to start tuning or will any 9-5 ecu from any year do? If I understand the above posts correctly then I think any will do, right?
As Faero and Norman are doing t5 remaps is anyone doing t7 maps? I'm not going to start messing with this myself as my laptops usually out of action for a coupla days whenever I start messing with things so I don't feel confident enough to knacker my car  .
Anyone with a proven track record of doing this, please advise..........inc ball park prices, by PM if you like.

Cheers,
Andy.

Any T7 ECU will do fine so pick up a cheapy that's hard to sell like a base LPT or something (inflated prices for Aero ones as far as I can see)

Nowhere near the same level of availability and development as T5 which is way simpler - but I think there is a reasonable selection of maps for the Aero to try.

I am guessing a stage1 - Slight issue is the 04 cars were pretty heavily pushed already but scope for more midrange is there.

Yeapee doodee need some hardware upgrades get some air moving loose some heat, buy yourself a 3" downpipe and decat / exhaust. you can get 270bhp without upgrading but would recommend upgrade some parts.
