Simple enough you say. Read the book, small jewellers screwdriver in the hole, press and push down. Will the cover release, will it £$%£^$£^! Same with the other remote. Applied slowly increasing amounts of pressure, but there is a limit when you think something will break. Help please!!!

With your third hand you need to gently lever up the battery cover...

Thanks all for the above. Had to hold the key part in a vice and use considerable BFI, but got there!

The separate banana/slug fobs have a screw but the all-in-one doesn't have a screw.

David

If you have a "Classic" 9-3 with the same shape key, then it is the same thing. No programming needed, just re-synchronise the key with the car by pressing the open button up to 5 times until it works.

If you have the newer shape 9-3 from 2002, it's easier. Press the Saab logo and pull out the "real" metal key. This exposes a small slot. Twist a screwdriver in that to split the key shell apart.

Hiya, Thanks, mine is a pre-new shape, 9-3. So I'll get a battery tomorow.

I am selling this one to a chap on here. I have taken the battery out. Only half a volt!

I can't see how you replace the blade though. Any thoughts?

I found if you start the catch thingy off with a small screwdriver, you can then prise the lid off with another.

In my case the battery is a Panasonic CR1632. It says so on the inside of the case! Part number 433 50 40 142.

The easiest way to do remove the cover on the later key is with a corkscrew!

I found a video on YouTube of a guy doing this & tried it - no force, no grunting & groaning, no third hand......

Hold the key with the fob towards you & the metal part pointing away then gently wind the corkscrew in & the cover just pops up - simples!

Hi, can anyone help please!

I have a 2004 9-3 convertible which is lovely. Went out this afternoon and the remote wouldn't work so unlocked the car using the key and started the car.

Changed the battery a 2032 but the fob wouldn't open or lock the doors. Synch'd the key by putting it in the ignition listened for the steering to release and started the car. The fob still doesn't work, the locking system works so it's not the car locks, is there something I'm missing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Just for info, took the car to the local SAAB specialist who diagnosed a duff CIM and quoted £350.00 plus fitting etc.

Danza recommended disconnecting the car's battery waiting 2 mins and reconnecting the battery.

I am pleased to say, it works, so first action for anyone whose key fob stops working is check the blip battery and if that doesn't cure it disconnect the car's battery and see if that rectifies the fault........
