'97 Saab 900 Convertible - what's it worth?

Good afternoon, my family recently inherited a Saab 900 S, 2 door convertible, 97 model. Unfortunately it has been standing for many years and we do not have the keys. We would love for it to go to a Saab loving home but need some guidance on whether it would be of interest to anyone or if it would be better to have the car scrapped.

Hello, 'tinyT'. I a!ways regard scrapping, I.e. weighing in, of cars like ours as a last resort. At the very least, it could provide a valuable source of spare parts thus enabling others to keep their cars on the road - a sort of automotive spare parts surgery!

Much will depend on the condition of your car. If it has been standing for an extended period is the engine seized or the bodywork corroded. Was (is) the hood OK and raising / lowering correctly. Having no keys is a problem solvable at a price, but you may very well find that as a minimum you will require a new battery.

There are so many unknowns that it is virtually impossible to put a value on it with any degree of confidence. You presumably have a scrap value; as a spares car it may be worth £500, as a runner with an MOT maybe £1000. Photographs would help and the car's MOT history (reg.no.) would also be useful to those able to provide a more accurate estimate.

Trust this is of some assistance to you in dealing with your car.

Regards, John.

It may be of interest to someone as a spares car or as a project, but that will depend on condition, the asking price and location.

Many confuse prices for this model with the earlier classic 900
But this model does not fetch anywhere near the amounts being asked for those, although having said that excellent/good condition turbo models are starting to attract a little bit of interest as modern classics.

Non turbo spares and project cars will not attract more than £300 - £400.

You could advertise it in the classifieds on here with photo's and a description for say £400.

If it does not sell drop the price.

To give you an idea on values there is an advert in the archives for a tin top NG900.

Plus a couple of later 9-3 convertibles (essentially a facelifted NG900 but with a host of improvements over the NG900).

These are the sort of values you will be looking at for a project/spares car.

With some even being given away for free.

Even running cars with an MOT are not fetching much.
