The registration appears to be EFR899W but something is off. The MOT history shows that this vehicle has never had its first MOT, it is 42 years old, how can it not have had an MOT in that time if it has remained in the UK. Nothing in the eBay listing to explain the discrepancy.

I presume this is something to do with it now being tax and mot exempt and because it's been off the road for a long period and possibly hasn't had an mot since they were recorded online. I'd want an mot on a £9k car that had been out of commission for years, personally.

This^^

It’s obviously not had an MOT test since 2005.
There are no online records pre 2005.

Last taxed May 1997

Currently neither taxed or SORN

Seller states

Its been taken to the odd car show to give it a run out which it receives loads of attention wherever it goes .
I have all its manuals , service card , saab wallet , receipts mots over the years and v5s to go with it

Very odd. Been on a private plate perhaps?

Even if it had been on a private plate the mot history would show under the current plate.

I would certainly want an MOT at that price, though I doubt he will get that much.
More to the point, I would not put a car up for sale without at least attempting to explain rather more of its history. The absence of an MOT for the past 17 years being something I would be at pains to detail. This is especially true as the vehicle has only been MOT exempt since 1 September 2020 meaning that for 15 years it shouldn't have been on the road and it was last taxed in 1996, before the SORN regulation came in, I think. However the V5 was last issued in 2020.

If I were considering such a vehicle I would want to know where it had been since 1997 and why the V5 dated from 2020. I am sure there are legitimate reasons for all these things but surely easier to explain them once in the eBay listing than to have to answer queries.

Agreed. It's easy to get an mot done at National Tyres for £27. You have to wonder if the reason the ebay winner didn't complete the sale is a lack of info about the history. I think it's always better to be transparent in the description, even if it means saying 'I don't where it's been for ten years...' .

Its a project car rather than a car that can be used confidently on the road.

I suspect it would not pass an MOT without a good deal of work.

It looks tidy enough, but the well established rot will be underneath.

I certainly would not buy without viewing or an MOT for the asking price..

Looking like it has now found a buyer, listing states deposit taken.

So they expect to sell £40,000's worth of tickets to "give" the car away?

They probably will, or above 50% of them at least. They have a pretty successful business doing this.

It's the only way they have any chance of recouping the cost of all the work undertaken and given the comprehensive file of the repairs they didn't appear to miss anything structure and interior wise.

Am I missing something? The technician fitted a new fan then refilled the cooling system and took the car for a run. Then when it didn't drive "right" he inspected the vacuum hoses? Really, if I were refurbishing a turbo I would have replacing all the vacuum hoses as a relatively high priority. A car of this age, I wouldn't even consider driving it without doing the job.
