Ad boasts of a ‘recent’ MOT (June). MOT history doesn’t make particularly good reading!

I wouldn't be happy paying £2,000 let alone nearly £20.000.

I don't get this price at all. If the vendor looks at recent sales, he should see the disparity between his suggested price and recent prices for sold cars. Even excellent 900 Carlsson classics are struggling to get this kind of money.

"There are very few jet black non-convertibles out there, let alone a pristine example like this".

Well there's one about 10 feet away on my drive, so not that rare. I think we will also have to differ about the meaning of the word 'pristine'.

That's just a nice, not particularly low mileage, Aero. Even if it was below half the price I would expect something in much better condition.

All the stuff that is cheap to do hasn't been done. The engine is dirty and the channel just below the windscreen is full of gunk - very common but takes minutes to clean out. The paint isn't that shiny - again, not a big job with a da polisher or just elbow grease. The leather gearstick gaiter is worn - easy to restore or replace if you can get the gearknob off. It looks like a car waiting to be prepped not a pristine example of a rare vehicle.

Pleased to see I'm not the only one that sees this one as being extremely optimistic on asking price.

I see plenty of enthusiasts going on about not talking SAAB prices down, but its not a case of talking prices down.
Its just being realistic with regards to actual market values.

I agree that this looks overpriced especially as the recent mot states areas of corrosion. It also could have been polished before taking photos.
What I do find is strange is the general values in the UK compare to other comtries in Europe. There are quite a few cars forsale for 50k euros. Fully restored at that price and reflects the amount of work gone into them but also there are loads of 900s at the 20k euro mark. I wonder how many find homes at these prices

‘Pristine’ c900 on C&C

It’s back again https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1402105.
Clearly not pristine, bumpers scratched, incorrect chrome trim, very dull paint. Apparently breezed through it’s MOT, despite some worrying advisories, and the previous catastrophic MOT failure 7 days earlier!

Merged with the original topic.

I think we will be seeing a few more relists on this one :corn:

It would be about £20 to change those grubby, chipped reg plates for shiny new ones. If they aren't prepared to do the small, cheap, easy jobs on a (supposedly) £20k car, it really doesn't give you much confidence about how much effort they've made with the important stuff.

Agreed.
Last MOT
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
corrosion in n/s rear of boot
corrosion in o/s rear in boot
rear of o/s rear inner wheel arch excessively corroded
Oil leak, but not excessive oil cooler (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule outer hose (1.1.12 (f) (i))
slight corrosion to rear brake pipes under vehicle joining T piece joiner
reverse lights not working

Previous MOT (FAILED)
Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded to the extent that control of the vehicle is likely to be adversely affected front of rear inner wheel arch (5.3.6 (a) (ii))
Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded to the extent that control of the vehicle is likely to be adversely affected floorpan (5.3.6 (a) (ii))

Repair immediately (major defects):
Fuel cap/sealing device missing (6.1.3 (b) (i))
Offside Front Brake hose ferrule excessively corroded both ferrules (1.1.12 (f) (i))

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
Offside Registration plate lamp inoperative in the case of multiple lamps or light sources (4.7.1 (b) (i))

Thus, despite having done some work to get an MOT pass the advisories haven't been touched. Without seeing the car one can't be sure but I would be looking very hard at the areas that were mentioned as failure items.

Surely from the wording of the above, that should be a fail rather than an advisory?

The word “excessively” would suggest that.

For that money, I'd expect the paintwork to have had a full correction as an absolute minimum, and certainly no advisories from the MoT man? :loco:

:wall:

Maybe a slip of the finger? £1,750??
