OK, the time has come and I need to work out what to do with my 54-reg 9-5 Aero estate. It has rust in the usual places (rear arches and dog legs, with the tailgate being the worst). However, it has the ventilated electric seats which are quite rare and it had a full engine rebuild at a Kent Saab specialist about 3 and a half years ago, at just shy of 147k on the clock. The work included:

  • engine & gearbox removed and split
  • full timing and balance chain kit replaced
  • cylinder head sent to machine shop for skimming, pressure test and replacement of valve guides and stem seals (it was using about 1.5 litres of oil every 1,000 miles)
  • piston rings, main and big end bearings changed
  • rebuilt with new water pump, thermostat and Sachs clutch, then refitted

suffice to say it was a rather large bill (circa £3.5k - however, I don't expect to recoup all of that cost!)

the car's only done about 18k since, however I now have a 2010 DE 9-5 so this one needs to go. I'd think of it as potentially a rebuilt engine with a nearly new clutch as a possible donor for another car with a blown engine, you could then also transfer/sell the interior?

Genuinely not sure what it's worth ... but if it's a pittance, then perhaps I'll remove the engine and gearbox and scrap the rest? But I doubt I'll need it any time soon and it would be good to see it go to a good home rather than bits of it just sitting in the garage for the next umpteen years. It's MOT'd until February 2022, so can be driven away.

Thoughts?

Take a look in the archived ads on here and completed sales on eBay, there are plenty of similar cars to compare against.

A ballpark figure is anything between £600 & £1500.

Place an ad in the classifieds and start it at the higher figure, if it does not sell you have priced it too high.
