2009 9-3 Sportwagon exterior door handle failure. FIXED

The Saab has developed a strange problem.
The exterior drivers door handle needs a really big pull to open the door. You can open in normally and easily with the handle on the inside but you need a really hard and snappy pull on the outside to get it to open. This isn't a fault that has developed slowly like a stretched cable but an instant fault, it worked one day and not the next.
Do the handles come out via the bung in the end of the door shut? Doing a search only seams to give info on the prefacelift doors not these doors which look identical to my old vectra and there handles could easily be taken out via undoing the torx behind the bung, lifting out the short fixed part of the handle (the bit that houses the key lock) then sliding out the handle, is this the same for the 2009 93?
