A year on, and my ebay ones are still going strong too 8)

Ive had a nose at the ones on Ebay Neal, they look sound. Mine came from Argos, they are cr@p! Only got 2 sensors. They worked for about a week or so & then just gave up.

Quick up date from me,
fed up with my none working cheapo Argos reversing sensors I spotted a much better set in Maplins today.
£30 for the set I wanted with just the 2 sensors.
They did have a kit with 4 sensors for another tenner but I think my towbar may cause problems with that one. Also the dash display was too big on that kit, but on the 2 sensor kit the display thing is small enough to fit into the twin switch blanks on the 9-5's dash.
Hope to get this fitted at the weekend.

This kit does come with 4 sensors, 2 stick on ones (which I wont be using, I think they look pants!) & 2 push fit into the holes you have to drill in the rear bumper (that I all ready have)
These are the sensors I will use,

Nope, wont be using these!
Will report back on how they work later.

Looks a good kit that does, but what are the books called on the book shelf, I cannot make them out.

Braved the cold weather today & got my new reversing sensor kit fitted. Didnt take long to rip out the rubbish Argos kit.
This Nikkai kit looks alot better made, dead easy to fit too, here's the main unit in place inside the boot pannel.

Image

Hmm, yellow cable ties......I like yellow I do!

The worst bit was running the wire for the dash display from the main unit to the dash, got it done though, no problems!

Image

I decided to mount this on the phone holder pod, I was going to fit it in the two switch blanks on the dash but I decided against that in the end.

Image

Ahh, these look a bit better than those silly silver Argos ones :argh:

Had a bit of a play after I had finished fitting it, works really well, the bleeper is loud enough & the pic on the display flashes faster the closer you get to an object.
Im well chuffed! :D

Hi all,

Great post was a big help to me. I've ordered my parking sensors and am awaiting their arrival, I thought that I would prep the bumper ready for me to fit the sensors.

I removed the bumper as this post describes, easy job the hardest part was removing the aluminum strip from the bumper once it was off.

Just an addition to the guide, My car is a 2000 model so i guess sensors were an option, I removed the polystyrene once the aluminum was out and the holes for the sensors are already marked, their are cut outs in the polystyrene for the sensors to fit and and a cut out for the wires from each sensor.

So no need to drill through the polystyrene just remove it

Thanks for the guide I hope my extra info helps anyone out who wants to attempt this job.

How difficult is it to paint these? My 9-3 is the same colour as Chris' (the mica red one), wont putting paint on them cause them to think theres something directly infront?

Couldn't bear to drill holes in my c900 bumper so I fitted the Parking Dynamics type sensors as in viewtopic.php?f=35&t=50677.

It works well and I mounted it on the c900 without even removing the bumper, invisible so not much point in a picture! On all other models the foil would be fitted behind the outer skin of the bumper.

I fitted the display next to the rear passenger side window as I'm normally looking that way when reversing, but don't really need the display.

I'm sure you could use the original Saab chrome strip instead of the foil as it is conductive.

I went with the maplin ones last night, since theyre on offer atm, thought at that price its worth a go. Still apprensive about drilling the bumper though, might test it on my old bmw first.

The hole drill bit that comes with the Maplin kit is bang on size, just mark out the centre of the holes & tripple check youve got it spot on & drill away.

Im thinking about doing a test run on my old bmw first. If I fit them to the 9-3 I want to colour code them, anyone done this other than chris?

Just want to know about how careful to be when painting these, thinking that the paint might mess up the sensors operation.

i fitted mine in the black strip on the bumper for a factory look, bumper off and taking apart is easy, just measure at least twice before you drill, you can paint them, the instructions on mine said apply two light coats.

I chickened out on doing it on the 9-3 in the end, and fitted them to my e34 as a test mule.

I think the result looks pretty factory, although I plan on spraying them sensors in bumper paint so they match the bump strip.

The issue I have, is I think Ive blown the fuse on the power cable for the maplin ones. Power is going down the cable from my reverse light, but not going through the little box half way down the cable.

Im going to try the main unit on a mates car who has them fitted, and worse comes to worse Ill just buy another set, £20 is no wallet breaker really. Not sure how I broke it though. :?:

I fitted the foil strip type to the front of my last car, with a dash-mounted push-on/push-off switch so that they wouldn't drive me daft(er) in traffic.

OK, but not as sensitive as the OE rears, the beep turned constant at around 12", so not too much use in tight parking. (I didn't have the display as nowhere to mount it).

How about mounting them in the bumper strip, rather than spraying them? They could also be covered if you decide to remove them.

Thats were i fitted mine, bit more work as the metal bumper insert also has to come out and is a tight fit,i had my bumpers painted later, including the black rubbing strip, but i guess back to black would work well the help the sensors "disappear"

Good thread reserection.
