Hi all,

Following on from our request in the Classifieds Section for a Saab 96, we are now proud owners of a Brown 1974 96 V4 - thanks to Mr john-saab.

Our plans for this little old 96 is simple - to turn it into a stripped out Track Car running a 9-3 Sport B207 engine, running gear, suspension etc with Trionic 8 management. We are still trying to decide whether to keep it to a modest ~350BHP or go all out for a 420BHP featherweight psychopath :twisted: !!! Check out below for how the story will unfold...

Work started today taking stats, measurements etc of the car and generally assessing the condition of the body and panels (still looking for a near side door :P !).

The thing I am most looking forward to guys is, how do you intend to give it lots of grip but stop it falling over??

If it helps, I happen to know a chap who has a set of 8" wide banded steel rims for a V4...although no doubt you're planning on using 9-3ss hubs and wheels instead??

Seems to be rusty in all the usual places but nothing that we didn't expect or that we can't rectify. Due to the amount of modification to the body and shell that we have planned, the worst hit spots are going to be disposed of and refabricated anyway!

Today we have started to strip down the donor car that will be lending it's engine, loom, transmission, suspension, floorplan etc for the 96. It's a 2004 Saab 9-3 Sport Aero with 68k miles on the clock:

That 96 is going to be neck braking fast.the Aero looked in such good shape.what do you think the BHP per ton will be? really can't wait for the next instalment.

Demos, when I come to see you next week, I might just see if you could try one of those TD rims on my 9-5 to see if they fit over the Hirsch brakes without spacers...if you have the time??

After a days worth of 'trimming' away what didn't need on the 9-3 Sport, we were left with this:

Believe it not, it still runs and drives!

The 96 is looking a tad lighter now with only minor items left to be removed:

Coming soon - removal of the floorpan of the 96. Then drop the shell of the 96 onto the floorpan of the 9-3 Sport and see where it lands. Obviously the 9-3 Sport will require to be shortened to fit within the front and rear arches of the 96.
