Hi, doesn't look like this topic has been in use for a while but I thought I'd let you know that I have just purchased h466 bcw. Black 2.3 carlsson. Hoping to save her from the scrap heap and she'll be back on the road within a few months.

Good luck with the car - they can hide a lot of rust behind the bodykit!

A slope-front 2.3 is pretty rare (even for a Carlsson), is the black paint still shiney? (it is on the list)

Yeah she's on the list... I'd been having login issues so trying for a while to post on here... its more of a welcome back really but thanks for the hello... and hello right back at ya...
Photo wise... I tried earlier but I'm guessing as I'm using my phone it's not allowing me to post them.
As for rot... she's in pretty good shape. There's a small spot below the intercooler where a jubilee clip rotted and blew the hose off at full boost. Whoops!
The panels and arches are all solid except for a pin prick under the drivers door sill.
Just refurbished the decor reflector panel too.

Problem wise... the Aircon pump went up in smoke killing the belt. I've replaced the belt but the pump I'd out of action still. The sunroof liner is missing but after a good chat at the limes I may have that in hand...
The only real issue is it has a slight misfire that has me scratching my head. Plugs are new and the di is fine... maybe some decent fuel and a flush will help.

Mitz82 - I'd steer clear of engine flush, much better to just drop the oil & filter say every 3,000 for a couple of changes.
I think it was your post I replied to in the workshop - hope you get to the bottom of the misfire!

Yeah it was my post... just replied actually.

I didn't mean engine flush as in buy in a can product... I usually drop the oil and put some cheaper oil in for 20 miles and then drop it again before filling with Mobil one... usually 0/40 for the 9-3. Not sure what the carlsson should take to be honest.
As for fuel only shell v power will go in her.

Another for the list, I just bought FDZ 6989, a '89 in black. Aiming to use her as a daily driver around Barnsley and Sheffield in a few weeks once I've tidied up her roughest parts. Some bits of her are surprisingly intact (door bottoms, front wings) but she's plainly had a hard life the last handful of years. The roof skin around the sunroof is cracked, the seat base has collapsed and the back arches need attention. I'm sure I'll find plenty more to do once I get her apart.

Hi guys. Been previously in hands of Glenb but I bought it few months ago from a guy from Birmingham who sells mostly Volvo's ( 850,V70) maybe someone knows him, sort of crazy guy. It's 1992 2.3 Turbo CS Carlsson, Registration number J415EEE. March/April car will be renovated, and definitely it's a keeper : )

Acquired F970 PAN which is on the list. Seems original, although missing a rear decor panel. Did they all have them?

From owner of another Australian Carlsson (8th month 1991 built 2.3T)

Australian Carlssons seem to have at least one colour different (white) from the various lists. I bought mine from Victoria and drove it to Qld...I don't remember now....maybe 10 -12 years ago….Somewhere the paperwork resides!! Whilst down there I drove a grey Carlsson, belonging to an Irish Estate Agent at Footscray area....He let me use it for few days, not trying to flog it off...very kind...Automatic as I recall but nicely kept (where are you now my Irish friend).

Mine (white) belonged to an Architect. He'd had it for most of its life. Well looked after with about 180.000 up, now 222,000. It had a twisted front passenger seat which gave my imagination some smiles until years later I learned that it indicates a motor drive problem. I was lucky enough to score two cables from a Sydney wrecker. That's yet to be painted and fitted...the holes in the boot area are sealed and it can all wait until more important work is done.

Owing to my work overseas it sat in my garage and then undercover in the drive as my son had gone all 'Steptoe' and I have been sidelined. The car has lasted well. Unusual aspect of it is that it has 'Carlsson' on both sides in red pvc tape going forward to the front mudguards. It looks good against the white but I've never seen it on another Carlsson. I quite reasonably think it was done by a dealer when new. The influence of those numerous Italian lairs in Melbourne may have been an incentive. It seems to have suffered no accident damage.

I'd had the suspension and alignment completely checked and redone by Allan Heasmans at Princes H'way Petersham. The business was started after WW11, by Allan Heasman (deceased) and ex RAAF bloke. His son I admire tremendously. He checks drives and re-aligns to perfection every car, no one else does that aspect.

My Bilstein sports shocks were fitted. Heasman have been doing my cars since 1961 know exactly what suits my driving and the rake I want. I am 'totally' fussy about brakes and steering so until last week have always done my own brakes.

I decided with a break from Uni that it's time to 'digitus-extractus' and get the Carlsson roadworthy. The Carlsson had clutch down and I managed to get it good with reverse bleeding...actually bleeding both ways after reco of master cylinder down at Olympic Circuit Labrador...not far from me. On misinformation that I'd used silicon brake fluid I raced home and tried to clear all the lines Since then I can't keep the clutch pressure, up nor the brakes, on new fluid...but have been doing the bleeding alone I bought new discs and pads and it goes this Monday to the brake and clutch re-place to have all callipers renovated and the whole lot refitted. I'm now suffering from numerous work injuries and Silicosis/Asbestosis and a lack of working space. In Gold Coast also one cannot work on a car, in the street.

Once the clutch pressure was up but soft I realised that the clutch was frozen to the flywheel. That took some controlled violence to break free. All the while I was thinking...'will I never get away from the threat of 'gearbox out' at $700 plus parts. I was not looking forward to another red hot SAAB workshop invoice....I am however worried that the slave cylinder might be leaking. I'd had a new clutch kit put in just before putting the Carlsson away as I thought it good "PM". The extended bleeder is a real pain and in my view should be tighter...Though it seals only at the pointed base, air can get in around the threads when bleeding. Thus I pressure both ends when bleeding but second time around it's not working. Its not easy to see whether fluid is freshly leaking into the clutch housing after leakage at bleeding so I will have to 'jet-spray' the bellhousing inside and see what I can see when it dries.

For the register which I saw on page 8, I am now in Chirn Park area of Queensland. My rego was 983LAS. I wonder whether the Carlssons had a range of Vin numbers? I can't see anything special about mine, but then Aero's aren't categorised either. I had black Aero...bought from a SAAB Tech Technician who'd left it sitting under a gum tree this side of Brisbane...in really good nick, apart from gum tree gum it was in great order, but didn't have the hard feeling of the Carlsson. I sold it a couple of years ago to a bloke in Canberra area. I got a good buy and he got one too!! The SAAB tech bloke had been offered a new twin turbo car by SAAB when they were having a clearance. That would have set the Carlssons up well too. If I had a choice between a good Aero and a good Carlsson I'd take the Carlsson even with the less useful computer. The Carlsson just 'has something' the Aero doesn't.

I'd recently had to think hard having been offered a 9-5 MANUAL 'special order' ARC. Queer...the thing that made me balk was asking myself "why would someone make a special order for a SAAB like that and not include a sun roof"....It just doesn't feel right but everything was up to scratch on the car....recently. That experience that parents buy a nice car and then the kids take it over and fix nothing came to mind. Then when it comes time to sell the parents advertise the numerous recent repairs...which sends mixed messages. I'd be ok to hear from any Aussies with Carlssons.

In France I have a Sapphire Cosworth up on blocks in my barn. Maybe I can do a swap sometimeI thought but...England and salty roads??...I have seen terrible damage done to expensive cars by that curse..like say Mercedes sports,,,dumb irons rotting at Firewall...To me any car that's rusting will never stop rusting, whatever the treatment. I suppose I might close commenting on the dreamers ..so often without money...talking of running the SAAB at 350/450/550 hp. SAAB put a limit on the sensible hp increases. As a FWD car (most unfortunately) torque steer is one issue. Another is controlling it especially in a chronically wet country.

So many of the hotted SAABs came up for sale in recent years as the people who did it realised what mugs they'd been. If you want 500hp, buy it from the factory don't 'bolt it on' . Power increases require competent re-engineering an d driving the car, personally and for the public safety, needs exemplary skills. My own suggestion is stay within 10% increase. The SAAB has all the grunt even a speed enthusiast needs....145 mph isn't enough? My Regards to all....

My letter was allover the shop!!....this laptop picks up chunks of text and dumps it in odd places...and I end up messing things up trying to fix it. That posting had at least 50 of those transfers...could easily have been 100.

I must have a look at some other Carlsson photos. I'm sure mine is different in the area where the sills come near to the rear wheels. It's more attractive in that part of the body than the red one on the site here. Maybe I'll post a photo....if I can work out how to do that.

My steering wheel doesn't have "Carlsson" written on it, nor colours as one I have seen today...I'm not sure whether I saw it here or at "Piston heads".I haven't bothered to register at ''Piston-Heads" where it also has 9000-Carlsson pages....the bizarre site-name turns me off....(chuckles!!). I like more serious sites. Ok...if anyone wants to respond...I will reply. My Regards.
