So,

had a weekend out just to see how the stereo performed.

Went up to Wigan to watch the "torture" and have a few beers, laughs etc.

Performed jolly well! Odd squelchy DAB reception in places. Not surprising, Wigan is getting on for 170 miles from here.

The remote controls only work "vol +/-" Input (DAB/fm/phone/USB/AUX. It does "mute" the sound.

Skip to next track works on USB. I have to work out how to get it to work "skip to next radio station"

I'm sure that more learning will take place.

Didn't need the fancy amp extension. Or the Fakra aerial lead.

Never mind. I am pleased with my work!

Nice work Si

After 7 years I'm looking at this again. Old age is catching up with me and I have decided reaching for the volume on the stereo is now too much effort and work.

To be fair though, main reason I never did it was because opensid was activated which uses the steering controls.

The interface I have bought should be here tomorrow so may waste works time installing it instead of working

Cheers Al!

Which one did you get? Why haven't you fitted it yet?

Can't get any interfaces working with gmlan. Just doesn't seem to be any steering control data transmitted on it at all. Starting to think my SID unit is defective.

Resistance based control like the older saabs doesn't work either. Press the horn or change gear using steering wheel controls and it turns the volume down.

Back to the drawing board.......

WHAT??

You are the WIZARD Al!

I am not even an apprentice. Not even an oily rag!!!

I got the InCarTec bits to work in a May 2007 (with a 2006 head unit) 9-5.

Come down yer, I will see if I can help..

Mind you Al, my car hasn't had any trickery electric stuff done to it. It is also manual gears.

Could this be your problem?.....

Manual/auto shouldn't make a difference with gmlan connections as SID will be sending specific instructions to the dead unit.

Have you got a link to the swc you used Si?

I used the InCarTec 29-UC 050 SAAB one Al.

This probably won't work on your car though. UNLESS you split the loom sockets, does your car have the Dame sockets for the DIN stuff?

You will also need an extra loom bit that plugs straight into the back of your radio (if there is a jackplug socket for SWI)

Popular theory is that you also need the Amp Loom thingy as well. DON'T buy this. I have one here that I didn't need on my car.

I also have three of the little addon looms (Chinese, Sony and another make) Don't buy these either if your car has one of these makes!

Don't remember how to copy links up Al, Sorry.

Shouldn't be too hard to find some though. I paid nearly £150 for all the bits I bought a while back. The UC 050 is about £80.

I just had to crimp the wire for the Reverse Sensors to work.

Just tried programming sid again and tech2 locked up.

I really think gmlan is defective in it. Will have to see if I have a spare one in the shed......

Thanks for the info Si, you of all people know I'm not afraid to play with wires if things aren't as they should be

I have seen you in action mate. You are very good at spanner stuff. This is why I'm surprised that it isn't working yet.

After a mini brainwave I had a thought.

SID only used gmlan for comms with the hu and tech2 as a pass through to the headunit. So ditch CANdi and programme sid solely using old i-bus. It worked.

Now the steering controls still don't work

Whilst programming SID I had 3 options for stereo type.

Entertainment
Infotainment
Prepared

Any ideas what the standard hu is because I'm wondering if that option might be turning the stereo control data off on gmlan?

That didn't work either.

Starting to really think either a headunit is needed to activate the data in SID or the SID unit is faulty.

Will have to get the bits I need to scan gmlan again. Managed to break them yesterday.

The important pin is 13 on the small connector. This is the one for the SID. (I think!!)

You also have the two blind crimps. I connected the blue one and the Reverse Sensors still work!

I taped the other crimp up.

I haven't got a clue how a muppet like me got it all to work. I did though! :park:

Having never had a denso unit fitted, I have the 2 gmlan leads out of SID. One to the obd port and one to nothing, planned on being used for the stereo controls.

On your HU there you'll find A13 and A14 directly connected together inside the unit, but A13 will be the only wire of the 2 connected to SID.

Still not sure why it's not working though, will have to keep looking. Shame connects2 don't tell you the meaning of the flashing LED as mine flashes green a couple of times then red once.

When I had the cheapo DAB fitted, I think that I added a wire for pin13. This started to work. Then, it didn't.

This is why I bought the Pioneer thingy.

Returning the swc for a refund and will try the one you bought Si. Hopefully will have better luck with it.

Al,

before you blow lotsa dosh on a whim, can you buy a remote for the radio?

I have bought a Pioneer CD R320 that does exactly the same job...

This cost me about £16..

OR, I stay sober this weekend and trolley up to you, you can try the INCarTech stuff BEFORE you buy it.

ONE CAVEAT.. I have a little breather pipe to fit to the back of my engine that I would like fitting..

You know where this is going, don't you!! :D :park:
