G'day Jack,

Greetings to down under. I know which climate I would prefer to keep a car in!

The Carlsson's were never set aside on the production line, merely a standard T16 (possibly with an S) which were then dealer fettled with new ecu, suspension, seats and body kit. Hence the lack of historical documentation.
In other parts of the globe they were known as the Talledega after the record breaking 'long run' at the US raceway. The Carlsson name coming from Erik, famous Swedish rally driver and brother in law of Stirling Moss.

Hi Rich ...Thanks for your reply...appreciated....I know of the Carlsson story and the 3 car endurance that gave it the rather uninspiring Talledega name....What pricked my ears up
(and no pun on your little sombrero!) is " which were then dealer fettled with new ecu, suspension, seats and body kit. Hence the lack of historical documentation. " That might explain much
including whether/why Carlssons were/were not a production group at SAAB itself. If you send me a personal email I'll send some photos of mine

Right now I am having a total rehaul of brakes and calipers...and finding out (chillingly) about ABS and accumulator deficiencies and unavailability and staggering high costs of them when new,,,,and the accumulator now.

No ABS' available...I have only found one at a wreckers and I believe the are (as a unit)unrepairable....I'm not sure whether the brake master cylinder itself is repairable or part of the ABS. 9000 parts are drying up out here. Owing to work injuries catching up with me and lack of space I'm having a clutch brake re-sleeving place do the brake job. They'll get that part done and worry about the rest once its on the ground and bled. Then comes the problem with the (was new) clutch slave cylinder. When my son reminded me of a crack in the gearbox my heart sank.....thus my trying to find out about rations and also whether the Carlssons or Aeros had LSD. I suspect not. SAAB should have made the car a RWD...like all the best road cars

On the subject of dealer-re-creation into a Carlsson. Owing to badge similarity presumably it was a world wide availability...I wonder if the parts were all locally obtained or supplied by SAAB...some of the photos I have seen. When I saw "202" produced I presume that must have come from SAAB...which could of course have been a part inventory conclusion or perhaps they were actually special order. There's a lot of info but not of the nitty gritty. Did SAAB do them or was it a farm-out as with say the Porche Flachbau (another of my car experiences,,,,that time in France).

Don't be too envious Rich.....we get a lot of rain in all the wrong places and I'm only a km from the sea...which doesn't do metals much good....including alloys. From many months of
looking at eBay and other adverts of SAAB and Ford Cosworth mayhem in year long ago (later 90's) ...Parts in France were terrifyingly expensive but most hp increase seemed to be done in England which had roads in my view unsuited to even 250hp foot flat..and salt.

One chap here was running 800hp in his cosworth engines...what's the point???...to feel special? That there's considerable financial and personal regret.over such 'hot up's ..and I understand the obsession with 'having it all' on a car but the losses on SAAB/Cosworth resale...IF they could resell them...were quite a gasp.

By the way even driving the 1996 Aero with its refinements over the Carlsson I still came back to the Carlsson. I'm paying for that now though (LOL!!) The Aero felt like a fast comfortable executive car, suited to a small family also perhaps.

I am not a happy bunny Rich...it's the hardly used slave cylinder leaking!!...oh no!!!!?
Even though the kit has only done 70kMs I'll replace the lot and machine the flywheel (again!) There's not point otherwise...I'll keep the existing one for spring-check
and spares. I had to moderately brutally free the clutch system,,,,so springs may have suffered.

Do it once do it well!! That will be over $2400 spent on one lousy clutch ripoff....and now hopefully a decent job...the brakes are totally renewed other than the ABS. I've
had several stories about the 'slave cylinder...' I don't yet quite get it...

My Regards

Gentlemen, this thread was started and intended to highlight & list the Carlssons that are out there, rather than as a fix it or introduction thread.

Jack, I'm sure a thread specifically about your car within ''Your Cars'' would be very much appreciated.

Yes and your right it had not.
But the reason it was made a sticky was because it was meant to be a definitive list of 9000 Carlssons that are still out there, or are known to have been scrapped.

Quote:
ok, so maybe they are not quite as much of a niche car as the c900 Carlsson, at least not yet (but I do think that they will become more desirable in the future).....and many 9000 owners are not so much of the enthusiast persuasion, but I feel it is time to start compiling a list of the 9000 Carlsson's that were made. I admit I may not get all/many of them, but feel that this is something that should at least be started, as it will prove a useful resource.
It is made a little more complex by the various different body-styles, but here goes anyways........
Please feel free to add to the list, and update on the details of any that are known to have gone to the scrapyard in the sky.

Hi Rich & Espin99, looks as though I didn't do so well all.... If I read you correctly the list is not '9000' Carlssons but is '900' Carlssons. (am I right?).

I erred then owing to the heading of posting which is '9000' Carlssons list and mine's a 9000. I won't talk more of it here as likely inappropriate .
Perhaps it's reasonable to comment in closing that 'over the top' and deceptive servicing charges here (Australia) took the shine off owning the early SAAB's. Along with
50% import duty it caused free-fall in re-sale value. Owning a SAAB still brings derision. As well as that our connection with Mr Carlsson's victories, Talladega
even SAAB itself was not the same as within the European community. One rarely meets say Carlsson enthusiasts and I'm not sure even how many came here, which is
why years ago I suggested in some other SAAB forum comments, a register. There was no response.

I'll leave that now and move on other than the 'to list...or not to list...that is the question'. Anything else if I continue to add conversation will go elsewhere.

If you could give me a 'heads up'about the 'list' question I can see whether to add mine or not. If I am wrong and the list does include both 9000's and 900's (and there
already might be a 9000/900 division coding within it but I don't recognise ) would it be a good idea to split it into two camps.?

My regards

.
