Pesky cat is a long ways from the end of it's piping. Likely a masonry drill 'may' reach, but I measure 20" as necessary length.
Might a bit of Concrete rebar be used to shatter it? Then knock out the matrix bits ?
Also is this cat of One Ceramic lump or 2 separated ones design ?
Concerned that I might end up with large lumps rattling in there.
More interested in reducing the Cat cooking the sump oil than purely perf gains.
Although the minor perf gains (from experience) are palpable

Cut it open from the top and remove then weld it back together , or use a broom handle/crowbar/bit of metal bar to break it up and shake the bits out.
I just moved mine further back away from the sump as I can't be bothered with MOT hassle.

Thank you ! Likely best to remove it from the car... then, attack it ?
Hope the o2(s) unscrew. Have the bespoke o2 socket, albeit Untested.
Zero inspections .. emissions Or 'mot' in my area. So I'm spared that at least.
Did attempt to find a pre '95 Cat/downpipe, for your same reasons.. but they are Extinct in these days of catalytic thefts.

Or just fit a 9000i Intermediate pipe. Just bolts in the same place so no need to destroy the cat.

Good thought... expect that even the sole remaining local Saab scrappie has None.
Doesn't have an older version Cat after/ separate from the downpipe version.

Both the non-cat downpipe and the flexi pipe to go behind the cat-in-downpipe arrangement are still available. Perhaps not in Canada, in which case you'd need to import them. Put together, you would have a non-cat system and I'm assuming you only need one of them as you'll already have the other. Being from '97 you probably have the cat-in-downpipe, in which case you need the non-cat downpipe, I assume.
Is there something wrong with the existing cat?

Nothing I know of to be honest.. other than it has ~125K miles on it.
I've run catless on other cars in the past and found no real life downsides.
Mostly though, I'm not liking the cat being a sump/oil heater.
Suppose it's also a poor mans' 'big downpipe' bodge as well.

Hmmm.. can you supply the / a non cat downpipe (like all my previous 9000's had).. and I never gave a second thought about ..?
It reads like my ideal solution.
Although the pesky freight could likely equal (or more?) the part costs.. Or if possible point me at a source ?
