So I'm in the process of modifying little bits to the car to make it stand out, and one of the easiest and cheapest mods I've found was white tyre lettering. I am running a set of 18" ALU56 Gunmetal Grey alloys with Continental Sport tyres, and wondered what white tyre lettering would look like (like on old American cars).

I did a mock up in Photoshop and now I'm after some opinions from you guys. I made it as realistic looking as possible to to get an accurate portrayal.

It's not everyone's cup of tea but I oddly like it and need someone to talk me out of it. Full disclosure, they would be the strips that chemically bond to the rubber - NOT with a white pen where I colour it myself so they would be 100% permanent... hence the need for honest opinions

No real opinion either way.

I suppose it's OK as long as you don't do much or too big. Your picture looks about right.

I did that in the late 1970s. It looked naff. It still looks naff in 2021! Don't waste your time.

Hmm, not sure about it being naff in the 70s. It was the required thing in my little group of 2-stroke loonies back then. I only blocked in the manufacture name and tyre type. Pirelli PZ2/PZ4 were a statement of intent back then.

If you do you can only have 4 matching tyres or you are dangerously close the Chav territory.

I still have the marker somewhere in the garage.

On this yes, but not on your Saab.

Nice wheels you have there.

I would avoid this if it was my car. It seems a bit 'shouty' and depending on the performance on offer may be incongruous.

Saabs usually perform the trick of being deceptively quick.

I must admit, I do kinda like the look of that on your car there. The wheels colour stands out with the "border" of the white text and that combo lets the wheels blend comfortably with the cars colour..
The font, wheels and shape of the car makes it look like its got some grunt ...

Would I do it to mine? not sure the colourt of my car would make the it work (parchment silver)
That and I'm not sure "Chian Shi Tiers" will look good in white.. :)

I like it.

But I have been called a closet red-neck.

The nays outvote the yays.

Guess that's conclusive. Cheers all

Lovely blue colour; I wish my 9-3 convertible wasn't it's nondescipt silver colour ! Aren't those front discs really quite tiny though? I have a Volvo V60 Polestar as well , massive front discs.

I have just remembered that someone I worked with, some years ago, spent a day carefully painting the white letters on his tyres. When he put them back on the car, he realised he had painted the inside face!! :D

Clearly, that's so anyone stood on the other side of the car can see it.. :)
