Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year & model in the post subject/thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Year - Car Model - Brief description of issue. FOR EXAMPLE- ''1999 9-3 - Problems starting when hot.''

For Tech II issues or help requests please state the following in your thread title ''Tech 2 help required - state issue and your location ''.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum, note compliant threads will be moved back when the mod/admin team next visit the Pit Lane. if your thread has been sat in the Pit Lane for 24hrs+ after editing, pm Tech II to request release)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hi all,

My brother in law recently purchased a 2011 9-3X TTid and we are just trying to locate the diesel fuel filter for replacement . How/where is it replaced and are there any special procedures to be followed after replacing the filter ?.

First time working on a Diesel .

thanks in advance

brendan

It’s on the near side of the fuel tank, you have to remove the water sensor first and catch any fuel, be careful as there are plastic bits can break easily.

There is a version of the Saab workshop manual on line but it takes a bit of navigating to find the right info, especially for the 9-3x.
https://saabwisonline.com/b8/9-3/2011/8-body/body-8-body/auxiliaries/adjustment-replacement-auxiliaries/wing-moulding-front-9-3x/to-remove-703/

The link is for removing the plastic wheel arch trim on the front but it took me about an hour to find it so I’m not navigating off the page to look for the fuel filter instructions! :D

I think you BIL might be the 2nd person here to own a Ttid 9-3x :D

If its like the regular TTiD, its on the side of the tank, inside a partial plastic cover. There are 2 different types. In is an insert cartridge, the other is an integral aluminium canister type.
The water sensor is very fragile. The second time I replaced the filter, it cracked slightly, after a few miles ''Censored'' diesel everywhere.
Managed to get to my dad's where we spent 2 hours engineering on lathes, a copper threaded bung to temporary seal the broken plastic sensor.

My ttid is the same year and it's underneath on the rear passenger side just ahead of the wheel. There's no water trap on mine, just spin off the cover and replace the cartridge.
