When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hello, I’m looking for some help please. My husband is planning to change my turbo as I’m getting a lot of smoke on start up but I’m not sure which one I need, eBay is confusing me. I know I need a TD04 but all the ones on ebay don’t appear to fit my 260bhp car? I’m actually a late 2005 facelift but this usually throws up the old model for everything if I put 2005 in so I usually search for parts under 2006. Did the turbo change in the face lift model? Thanks

Thanks very much, is there a part number for the short nose turbo do you know? eBay is telling me parts fit my vehicle which I don’t think they do. Are the turbos interchangeable? Would the long nose turbo fit in the place of my short nose one?

To double check the actual "model year", which is used for buying parts, check the 10th digit of the VIN number in the bottom corner of the windscreen. 5=2005. 6=2006. 2006 manufacture will have started around September of 2005.

I have a 2007 260hp 9-5 Aero. The part number of the turbo was originally 55560601. That has been replaced by 55564966. Use the later one.

The 2007 car has a different turbocharger part number again. I have no idea what has changed. I don't think it can be much.

Brilliant, thanks for all the information. I’ve just checked the vin number and 10th number is 6 so 2006 parts are right for mine. Thanks again

Depending on how handy you (and/or your hubby) are, typically you can get away with replacing the CHRA ("Centre Hub Rotating Assembly") - the bit in the middle of the turbo. I believe this is the same for all 9-5 Aero's, only the inlet housing changed on later models. Which could potentially save some money and would be better than going for a cheap Chinese copy turbo - which generally don't last long, or taking a gamble on a used one.
