HELP :haynes:
CAR: Saab 9-5 Aero Manual Stage3 2008
SPEC: Hirsch intercooler, Bosch 3.5bar FPR, Forge Recirculating dump valve, Noobtune map, Mamba actuator with green spring,
recently serviced and new spark plugs gapped to 0.9mm, MTF changed,

PROBLEM:Turbo not coming on at all just suddenly started happening, turbo gauge wont go more than a quater .

Car was runing sweet then last week i floored it in 2nd onto 3rd then when went into 4th I laid off and then no turbo power and engine management light came on and stayed on,
my brother pluged his obd2 reader and error code was P1105 which mostly relates to waistgate or boost control valve or even APC
I've checked these and all pipes are also good as most have been replaced with silicone pipes,
even took of the boost control valve and put battery power to it and I could here it click meaning valve is opening and closing (although I didn't do a pressure test)
also took off the actuator arm from the waistgate and the waistgate is opening and closing fine.
cleaned the apc and the MAF sensor with electrical contact cleaner. intercooler pipes are silicone and recently installed but I have checked them aswell again and their ok, even opened the 02 oxygen sensor and cleaned that,
car is driving very smooth and idling ok JUST NO TURBO BOOST AT ALL.
Opened SID and mReq goes upto 1400 on full throttle as should and mAir dosn't go more than 500 which should match mReq,

ANY ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED

If all hoses are definitely ok and no bursts in them or the IC, remove the cobra pipe from the turbo and check if the compressor is still attached to the turbine.

As above, make sure the intercooler pipework ect hasnt popped off. I had similar issue with a 9-5 aero and it turned out the intercooler had split/burst

Oops....

Time for a 19T - Mamba seem to work well and get good reports.

Karl was saying 18T

Also need green Giant injectors
Standard 3.0bar fpr
And remap

I should be on around 305bhp. As I’m stage 3+
Is it worth the expense to go to 320bhp don’t know what the torque figures will be ?
Anyone done this and was it worth it?

You're limited to 450Nm unless you have a forged bottom end (or a 234/5 hybrid).

My old car, FB2, was a 235 with 19T and all the other stage 4+ mods - 320bhp and 450Nm. Worth it over stage 3? I reckon so, it pulls a lot harder at the top end at the expense of a little off-boost/low rpm sparkle. Mine was intended as a stepping stone to building a hybrid to release all the torque from the 19T (500Nm, 340-350bhp). I sold it and bought FB3 as a "nearly done" project instead, and have often wondered since then if I did the right thing...

I think I’m going to stick with standard turbo CHRA core replacement but with uprated billet aluminium compressor and bearings which will spool up slightly faster,
From Turbo rebuild £250 (they said you won’t need a remap because you don’t gain a lot. As it’s still a 15T just slightly longer fins.

Totally standard core is £138.

Local saab specialist said a sump drop is a must as he recons turbo could have been starved of oil.

To gain another 15 to 20 bhp it’s gonna cost me another £570 on top of the £250 which I need to spend to get me back on the road,
With uprated billet compressor still 15T should be running 310bhp.

Has anyone went just for an uprated core with compressor?

I doubt you'll get much more power with the billet wheel and no remap. It's mapped to provide a certain air mass and will attempt to control the boost to deliver that. You might get a little more, esp in the mid range, but you may also get boost creep if the WG can't bypass the turbine enough. You'll need to watch the fuelling. Best to do it right, whatever route you take.

Managed to get a used turbo from Bagnall SAAB West Midlands,
They said it’s off a 2009 with 53k Miles,
It looks ok.
Fitted it yesterday, I also dropped the sump found some small fragments more like shreddings no sluge though. Also took off the oil cooler and cleaned it out.
Fitted new strainer pipe washer also used Loctite 518 sealer.
Just need to change coolant and add oil 5w30 +filter.
I hope all will be ok.
