Hi all,

I am trying to get to the bottom of why the seat belt warning light does not work, also the lights in the centre part of the dash (the vent, temp dials and the dash lights illuminating the switches below). Before I take the whole dash apart I'm trying to work out where to look first. Some quick things I checked:

I am trying to follow the Haynes manual wiring diag which says there should be switch within the drivers seat but i can only see one two pin connector going to the seat (see pic), which had power to it so I assume that its the heated seat feed
When switching on the ignition there is no power to the light within the warning seat belt light (even when I was sitting on the seat before it was removed)
An assumption could be there is a connector behind the dash that could be common to instrument panel lights and to the seat belt warning light - any thoughts as to what part of the dash this could be
Of course the seat belt warning light and instrument panel light issue could be unrelated - if so any thoughts are welcome
By the way when i switch the corner lights on the rev counter goes to zero (but that could be a red herring!)

I don't think the drivers seat has a weight on seat sensor. light is just on while the seatbelt is not plugged in.

a Small button under the metal bar on the strap only type.

as to lighting, there are a couple of bulbs at the end of a couple of long perspex light bars, wheich have notches wer they want to deposit light along the way.

What we need are more people who specialise in the impossible

1) Have you checked the warning light interlock switches under the seatbelt 'clips' - sometimes these get stuck (or are stuck down on purpose - if I don't do this for the passenger seatbelt the lamp is on all the time (I suspect any passenger weight sensor that might have been fitted has long ago failed)
2) the only cable/connector under my driver's seat is for the seat heater (which I leave disconnected)
3) When took over care of my 99T several of the lamps worked intermittently or not at all - cleaning up corroded earth connections seemed to do the trick.
4) Heater dial lamp also does glove box duty (very clever use of acrylic prisms)
5) Rev counter and corner lights - very strange. I'll take a look at the electrical diagrams (in SAAB service book, not Haynes).

Thanks guys - i did also look at the wiring diags, that's why I came to the conclusion there is some sort of switch in the seat as the diag suggests that. Couldn't quite work out if there is a common link between the seat belt warning light and the dash illumination - common ground?

I think removal of the dash in general and a clean up of connectors and bulbs could be in order - winter job!

Please keep the hints coming...
