When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Car has started to develop a knock whilst changing gear, seems like it is coming directly below my feet. When under "load" there are no noises, just happens when changing gear or on and off the power without using the clutch.

I've also lifted the bonnet and with the handbrake on, brought the clutch to biting point. Looking in the engine bay, can see there is a fair bit of engine movement. I'm presuming one or more of the engine mounts are shot.

Which mounts are most likely to fail? Is there anything else i should be looking at that can cause the symptoms I've described?

Car is a 2008 9-3 1.9tid manual

Cheers

Jamie

I would look at the mounts for sure the rear most engine mount is most likely and you can visually inspect with miminmal effort look closely at the rubber for splits

another vote for engine mounts, the way i found it most obvious and what convinced my mechanic when explaining is when i would quickly rev engine and engage clutch to just jump forward a bit, when doing this the knockwas still there as it caused engine to rock on the mounts and it moved more than it should because one of them had totally perished or vanished
