Has anyone tried these or these on a C900 and/ or a V4? They're quite cheap, but if they don't fit or explode in your face they're not worth the money...

Hi Melle
I use these ones and find them quite good.. at least I feel safe using them.
See the link below.

Thanks for that Paul. The beauty of the ones I linked is that they have only one spindle and can be used with a ratchet or air gun.

My mechanic has some like that which he uses on c900s and up. Not sure about V4s, but I imagine so.

Quite heavy in use but work fine with c900
Wouldn't use a windy gun on this kind of work though

Thanks for the feedback. It might be possible to replace the silver washer in the pics with a thrust bearing to make it easier to use?

Wouldn't mess with tool, works fine as is. it's a much beefier tool if you are used to traditional compressors

They're certainly along similar lines to the original Saab compressors for the 96/99/900. I like the idea of the ones with the soft yellow sleeves to avoid marking the springs, although with the other ones you get better visibility of how the spring is seated on the jaws of the tool.
As Mr. Haynes says, I wouldn't mess about with modifying it. If it works OK as it comes than that's fine and if you don't modify it then you can always try to sue someone if it breaks and kills you.

I've never seen a problem with improving something. Remember that products like this are designed with cheap production in mind rather than performance. I think I'll order a set, see what it's like and modify if I see fit.

I have all of the official Saab spring compressors for V4, early 99 and later 99/900. I am willing to let anybody use them local to me (Widnes/Liverpool etc), I am not prepared to post them, a deposit will also be required.

That's a generous offer 99 EMS, but I need them in my workshop in NL and it's also a tool I would like to own as I do springs every now and then. I'm still in the market for a V4 factory tool if anyone has a spare.

The motorways links out of Cheshire are good, but not that good...

I might take a punt on the blue set. Looks like the black or silver jaws will do the C900 fronts. I will be replacing the springs and shocks on a couple of 9000s in the near future and if it doesn't fit inside the C900 arches at least it will do the 9000 front struts.

The plastic inserts look dodgy to me, I'd rather use the tool without them. Pro versions of this type of tool (out of my budget) never have them, I guess for good reasons... If you buy them please let us know how you like them.
