Finally had enough of my current job and the fact they are advertising for new starters doing the same job as me but for much more money. Been promised reviews of this for the last 6 weeks and again promised this morning that they would sit down and discuss my job, pay, etc. That didnt happen so my notice went in effective next Friday.

Trouble is, I dont have a job to go to yet. Been on the phone and browsing the job sites all afternoon so plenty of people are starting to see my CV. Had 2 callbacks already so cant grumble about that. There are plenty of jobs local to me if I dont mind taking less hourly pay but the payoff is not having a £200 a month fuel bill to cover.

I am sure you will find something. My bet is that your resignation will prompt them to make you a better offer. Good luck whatever you decide.

It might do exactly that but its a bit like the annual car insurance merry go round. Only make a better offer after you have kicked off about it in the first place.

The normal way is to find a better paid job first....
then hand your notice in.
Then hope/bargain you know you are indispensable, and the company
will offer you more money.
I have done it twice now, and the first time I even got a bottle of expensive wine thrown in.
good luck on the job hunting.
Pete.

At the moment im an Electrical Fitter but am highly experienced in all sorts of electrical, mechanical, maintenance and IT type jobs. Not much in the way of formal qualifications, even my IPC-610 is 10 years out of date now.

Between Mansfield and M1, J28. About 10 miles from both Derby and Nottingham. Plenty of industry in the area but lots of it is shift work which im not that interested in.

I done the same last august, got paid a full 10k less than my counterparts, along with a 3000 mile a month commute told them to swivel. Still don't have a job thankfully the other half works. Job market is tough if your not already in a job. But in my case I get to spend more time with the kids so it's not all a waste. Good luck with the job hunting

Some days I feel like quitting and just wandering down to Sainsbury's to see if they have vacancies for shelf stackers. considerably less than what I am on but life is sometimes too short... I have a 1200 monthly commute, which was 32 hours per month, now it's more like 60-70 hours in the car - I love my car but sitting in traffic hacks me off and also the effect of stop-start movement shows in my fuel spreadsheets.

That isn't the issue, constructive dismissal is where your employer makes life so difficult you feel you have no alternative to resigning, or substantially breaks their side of your contract

They have never made the job too difficult or awkward at all. They are just taking the :cen: a bit with the wages.

My wife is in a similar position, part of her role was organising conferences as well as office manager until her company took on an events coordinator & paid them £5k more than her. It's chubby insulting & I can understand you quitting

I understand constructive dismissal, I was asking why you believe it might apply here?

I was explaining to the OP how him deciding to resign doesn't rule out constructive dismissal, I wasn't questioning how it might apply in the case.
I guess it could be argued that he could feel that paying other people more than him for the same job may make him feel his position was untenable?
