Following our succesful outing to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park the other month, we seemed to hit on Whitby for being a good place to go to next ... as well as being a kind of send off for Bollman, who has been with us for only a short time but is returning to Sweden soon.

I think we suggested a Saturday would be preferable to Sunday. Looking at the dates, there is the last weekend in May, which is a Bank Holiday weekend and not a good time to travel. Bollman & Nicki are available that weekend, but as we said, a Bank Holiday weekend is not a good time to travel. The weekend before is problematic for me ... and one of the Bonzos would not be able to make it. June is out for BigBadAl, but unfortunately we seem to be pushing more into June, TBH. What about the first weekend in June - Saturday 2nd ... is that a good date? Al - We can do another in July/August when you've a bit more time.

Does anyone from North Yorkshire, particularly Whitby know of anything going on that weekend that may make it difficult for us? Once we've a date sorted, Bonzo has a good route I can map out, but I think the initial meeting destination should be just out of Whitby at Runswick Bay ... then we can drive down en masse into Whitby, donning our Viking helms and blonde wigs where appropriate

Accounting for May Bank Holidays I did have a genuine premonition my 53rd birthday celebrations may well start with a fancy dress drive to Whitby :D Yes, Bonzooki and I would be up for it.  Sorry to over mirth I did have a feeling about 2nd June

If my topic subject seems too exclusive, please excuse me - the day is, of course, open to all SAABers from anywhere in the country. I put (West) Yorkshire since our little West Yorkshire meets gathered momentum very quickly and became Yorkshire and even Yorkshire & Lancashire meets  But ... still obsentibly Yorkshire, since Whitby is in our county

Duh! I was looking fairly closely at the dates so not to hit the bank holiday and guess what... it was a Swedish calendar! Silly!

Right, we don´t know the dates for june yet, but I´ll tell Nicki to try to get the first sunday of june off then!

Runswick's a bit awkward for folk travelling from afar to get to, how about an easier meeting point? Maybe Castle Howard (like, round the corner from me  ) or if you want it nearer to Whitby, somewhere on the A169 Pickering to Whitby or A171 Guisborough to Whitby??

The thoughts from this end were to avoid the A64 as nobody likes it. So meeting on the A169 would be out. As we would be approaching Whitby from the North, twas me that suggested Runswick. My thinking --- it is on the coast road 15 mins out of Whitby, has two car parks one clifftop and one beachside, also has a nice long sandy, never busy, stretch your legs, kick a football, toss a frisbee, kinda beach. No reason others couldn't be met en route to Runswick. Any way that was my thinking. Very happy to listen to alternatives. :)
Looked at tide times for 2nd June, Whitby. Low tide 11.46, high tide 17.53 so as we would probably be arriving about lunchtime, lots of beach to play on.

Now that I'm a Dad to twins that are under 3 months old, unfortunately, the very tempting run sounds like another "missed opportunity" to take the 99 for a spin.

Sounds like a nice run though... :?

I must source some rear belts sometime...

Cheers, the perils of self-employment I'm afraid.

Be nice to meet you Scotty. :)
Any other Saabist Wearsiders, or for that matter Teesiders or Tynesiders, you think might be tempted South by Yorkshire Ale and fish 'n chips?

And you too Bonzo, shall you be sporting a green suit?
