Been lurking for a little while, and posting here and there, but thought I'd better post in here and make myself known properly.

After being a Vauxhall man pretty much since I started driving, I decided I wanted to move onto something new. My family is due to grow by one in the next few weeks and I needed something bigger than my Vectra hatchback. After doing some reading, I decided to look at a couple of Saabs and see how I got on with them. In the end, I decided on this one:

A 2008 Aero Anniversary, with pretty much every option ticked as far as I can tell. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I'm sure it'll be an excellent family carrier, as well as being an excellent tool for humbling the boy racers we get around our way!

260bhp is plenty for now, but has anyone had much experience with tuning these later Saabs (maps etc)? I'll be doing some reading around the forum over the next few days, work permitting, but any first hand experience is welcomed!

Nice! :)

When you want more power, you can get a little more, but 300hp is about as much as the hardware will take. Perhaps a touch more. But apart from the remap you should be looking at a few bits of stuff to keep the temperatures down.

A 3 inch down pipe and sport cat will improve spool up time. But a bigger intercooler wouldn't go amiss.

My Hirsch upgrade is very conservative. Hirsch are the official Saab in-house tuner. They have all their stuff approved for fitting to new unregistered cars, so they have to comply with emissions standards etc. But I have 300hp. Guaranteed for 24 hrs/day in any part of the world.

Remap. Intercooler. exhaust and downpipe. Sport cat. 3.5 bar fuel pressure. Bigger airbox and filter.

In the UK you may not get the chance to do the speed at full throttle for any sustained period, so the temperatures may not rise too far before you back off, or the engine control backs off for you!!

Have a word with Karl. Saabnoob on here. He will tell you the best way forward! :)

But bigger brakes, and 18 inch wheels to go over them, will also help. I found the Aero brakes, although bigger than standard, were not really up to it. especially when driving fully loaded over the Alps!!

I also have the Hirsch suspension, which is nice!! Hirsch stuff is expensive, probably due to the need for all the approvals.

Also look at Maptun http://www.maptun.net

Thanks for that. I thought bigger brakes would be a must, as the standard brakes are the weak point in the setup I've found so far, even with standard power. They're certainly snug under the wheels though!

I'll do some reading over the next few days and a bit of research. Is the Hirsch setup costly/still available?

Still available, but very expensive. They are doing discounts for cars of 2008 or older. Does yours creep into that? Or is yours a 2009 mode? (check the 10th digit of the VIN number 8 =2008 etc.)

I think that the Hirsch engine, wheels, tyres and brakes are over £7,000. Prices are on the link in my post.

Looks nice though!! :)

That's really smart! I like the wheels particularly.
