going back to pure turbo power throws up the issues that started the compound set up in the first place namely lag .when i first fitted the hx35 it was on a cast t3 manifold and i milled a slot into the divider inside the turbine to deal with boost creep which worked fine but i havent taken advantage of the twin scroll exhaust housing on the holset .

the tube header needs some work to split the collecter as they are grouped 1-3 2-4 so in the right order for both sides of the turbine

should be able to come off the collector at an angle and sit the gate just above the turbine housing

I need to run a smaller turbo and intercool the flow from the turbo so it's going back to compound later in the year but the blower I need is nearly a grand and I have a monthly budget which I always stick to so I can't buy one until later in the year . I know we will be at the 500hp mark with the holset so I can develope the running gear and suspension so I don't get any nasty surprises .

The trick is to have a turbo that has very good low down response and can flow a lot of air up top so you get the benefits of compound at low rpm and the airflow to make the big numbers as well .

is that how they are currently grouped? will take quite a lot of work to re-match them to 1-4 2-3

Not considered going sequential turbo with the standard T25 and the holset? would think this would be much easier to setup than the super charger setup and get similar results? (only asking as I want to try it but wouldnt mind learning from someone elses mistakes lol)

The system does work and you do get instant torque from the charger but I need to rule out a couple of things before splashing out on a turbo . When I broke my driveshaft I put a slightly stronger spring in the gate which hit boost cut at just over 3k . This might be a spike caused by the little internal gate not being able to control boost so I need to go ext gate and get the split pulse sorted to get the best from the hx before changing it .

Although the internal gate can cope with 2bar on its own the rate of rise with the charger is much quicker so could be choking and causing boost spike .

Having nothing to compare my system to means a lot of trial and error but it took a couple of hours and a new inlet gasket to go back to turbo only .

Even with the soft spring we had to back off the preload a couple of times as we hit cut on the long straight at Mallory which sounds like boost creep to me as the gate would be fully open by 1.3 bar

made a few changes to the back end to try and resolve the axle float issue , re made the shock mounts to angle them inwards whuch did help but it looks like i need to add diagonal links from the chassis to the de dion beam to eliminate any side movement under load .


its still running the same set up at the rear as it was with the twin bike engines but the extra weight must be causing some flex between the trailing arms and the panhard rod at the rear so it makes sense to triangulate from the chassis to the centre of the beam.

next mod is the corsa electric column which fits in quite nicely


currently its back to pure turbo and after running the compound setup i can feel how much extra torque the supercharger made however once the holset gets going its a different story ,

Are you just running the chargecooler on it now - no IC?

just using the big chargecooler and your old meth spray kit with a controller . phils done a pretty agressive map for the holset so once we get that fine tuned im going to put the supercharger back on with the other inlet that has a chargecooler built in so that both stages are intercooled . before stumping up for a different turbo id like to try a diverter valve so that the compound system gets up to 1 bar then the diverter operated by a boost fed actuator cracks open and lets the turbo flow around the charger like the delta s4 .

lots of mods this month , to start with the old hx35 is gone and made a good sum on the bay so the new hx35 hybrid cost £80 plus shipping . to get the best from it the manifold is being converted to split pulde including keepint the sides divided right up to the ext gate valve . after some mocking up im going up to a 44mm gate which has v band fittings and some adjustment for preload to help tuning .

the nissan manifold would be a mare to vut up completely so its being modified keyhole surgery style and the long runner that comes in at 90deg to the collecter has had a tweak to turn the tube ino the collector at a better angle





the corsa b power column is done and makes the car a lot easier to drive especially at low speed .the speed sensitivity works as it should and the weighting can be altered by adjusting caster on the top wishbone til i get some decent self centering but it feels pretty good as it is .
the floating felling from the rear is pretty well resolved now after tieing the lower chassis rails together underneath the car to stop the panhard rod mount from moving but it need a horizontal link on the n/s to triangulate the chassis properly . lifting the front trailing arm mounts up by 50mm has made a differnce to turn in as the back end starts to come round on the brakes rather than load the front into understeer .

the rear mudgaurds dont fit after adding the 20mm wheel spacers so no option but to fit the rear body so its back to cag and spray foam for a while



after smurfing everything i own last time ive got a roll of mask sheet to make a bit of a booth this time .

that would be great dave, I'm going to make the puma rwd i think now..
just working out best parts to use that dont cost the earth..
cossie lsd, shafts etc, dont know whether to use omega mv6 gearbox or cosworth t5, or type 9, only thing is omega fits straight on hydro clutch etc..
let me know about sumps though mate.

Sump flanges should be done a week Monday then il get the bosses machined up to take the pickup . As the omega boxes are cheap i would give it a go as its not a huge job to go to t5 if it falls to bits . I used the Saab concentric cylinder with a 20mm spacer on my mates rx7 conversion . If height is a issue once you turn it round I have a plan for a cheap dry sump kit on my hot rod build thread .

ok.. was thinking of trying omega box, do you have any spacers, is that just the std saab cylinder.?
I read b204 was easy to dry sump, might be better for me eh..

made some headway on the body ,



getting a bit heavy to lift but i can still get it off on my own

the manifold is coming along nicely

the divider will carry on down the wastegate pipe right up to the valve to stop any flow mixing .

this runner came in at 90deg but now turns in a bit better

internal finish was pretty poor but it was a cheap ebay job

the tub has had a hard time being left outside and dragged around for the last 4 years so it was in a bad way with a lot of cracks and gel coat damage so its taken the best part of a week to get it this far .

Still looks awesome everytime i see this thread ...although i must admit that some of the technical stuff goes straight over my head
