After having my cam cover powder coated recently, I decided to strip my red DI back to the metal with paint stripper and elbow grease. Used several grades of sandpaper to remove some aluminium corrosion, wire wool to smooth it off and then a block of Garryflex to remove various small marks.

It's far from perfect, but I'm fairly pleased with it. Could anyone suggest a way to make it brighter/shinier (like my strut brace), as it's a bit dull for my liking?

Thanks :corn:

attach a polishing mop to an electric drill and add on various cutting compounds (rough to ultra fine available) then use it on the casing.....it will come up a treat. Then seal the polished finish with a heat resistant 'lacquer'

Autosol (autoglim solvol) about 6 pound at Halfords, cheaper on the bay. I'd avoid laquer. Just polish monthly.

Instead of a laquer, you can always use a sealant.....avoiding future oxidization.

An excellent product for this is called Permanon Aircraft....heat resistant to +300C and Minus 100C. Simple to apply....wipe on glass, metal, paintwork, plastic with a wet microfibre cloth and job done for 6 months. This product when used on the car's bodywork also repels water and dust, acid and alkaline resistant and leaves a high gloss finish. Also can be used on alloy wheels to protect against brakedust contamination....a whole car for less than £2.

As you only need a small amount....phone this company and they will sell you a sample bottle for about £5. Worth every penny. :D

Applying it on a car.....
