I've signed up for this :)
http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/event-d ... noviceonly

£99 for four sessions (sighting laps plus 3 x 20 mins sessions) - at quite a good price - restricted to those who've done three or fewer trackdays previously.

Session runs from 3.30 to 8.00 pm so though billed as an 'evening' it's not much shorter than a winter trackday...

Plus - a there's a 20% reduction for first timers :) if you book before the end of May, so if you're thinking about giving this trackday malarky a go, this looks like a good way to do it...

anyone interested in joining me?
not a UKS thing, just book directly through ClubMSV as per the links above...

Oi Oi Rich,

Might be able to go to this as part of my 40th birthday celebrations. :bag:

Was actually weighing up the Snetterton Novice day on the Monday my birthday falls on that weekend. Then saw your post, how weird is that?

Trying to persuade my sister to tag along, she only wants to watch, she has one of those BMW Mini Coopers, but is frightened she might crash it!

But, can she be a passenger?

Let you know for defo, soon. :D

Just checked the website.

You can select, on top of the event price.
1) additional driver for £10,
2) passenger for £10
3) crash hats for £10 each.
4) tuition for £25 where an instructer goes out with you in your car fro one session.

Hi Rich,

Sorry to dissapoint, but I'll be at Goodwood Festival of Speed on Friday, and then out and about in Frome, Somerset, so won't be able to make this.

Have a great day,

John.

Thought it was about time I did a short update…

Attended this trackday evening with a colleague from work. This was the first such event that I’d been to without the UKS posse – so although I was on my own and outside my Saab comfort zone, everything went OK and thankfully nothing broke – even though the sessions were conducted either on a drying track or under light drizzle…

The schedule was pretty tight. After signing on and the normal briefing, there was lots of hanging about then – wham bam – four 15 mins sessions in quick succession with only 15 mins between them.

I managed a spectacular off at Paddock on my second session – stupidly I took my foot off slightly down the hill and spiralled off to the right. No harm done except to my dignity as the session was red flagged as a consequence, and I had to have a ‘little chat’ with a senior marshal. I leant from this though – from then on, foot down all the way through this tricky downhill/reverse camber corner from apex onwards (provided the tyres had warmed up…)

Talking of which, I was running on Federal 595RSR17 tyres – my first go with trackday tyres. Made a huge difference to grip, but I found they took longer to warm up than road tyres, and I’m not convinced I was running at optimum pressure. More experimentation required at the next trackday, but a very worthwhile addition to my trackday armoury!

Here are a few pics…
