Does it exist?

Im looking out for a car for Lindsay and spotted the White 900 Auto in the classfieds. Trouble is, Lindsay is only 23 (in 2 days time) and using the standard compare-a-quote websites we couldnt get anything under £975.

Is there a specialist insurer that we could use because if we can find one then Lindsay might end up in a SAAB before me :shock:

Most classic policies (with the exception of the Morris Minor) won't cover anyone under 25. For exactly the reason you have discovered....
I put SWMBO on my insurance for the T16S 3 days after she passed her test, because she was my (then) partner (as opposed to now wife) it only cost me the loss of policy holder only discount. £40... OK she was 30...

Having had insurance with Adrian Flux in the past I keep getting emails from them on a reasonable basis. A few months ago there was an article on young drivers and they claimed that the cheapest car for a 17 year old to insure was a VW Beetle on a classic policy. I guess that they must offer classic car policies for 17 year olds having made such a statement. It might be worth having a chat with them about it.

Beetle will come into the same category as a Morris Minor, IMHO, but I wouldn't try to fix a moggy for £7.. :corn:

I think Paul is trying to insure a SAAB for Lindsay rather than insure Lindsay for just anything.

Doubt you'll get a classic policy as such but you must be able to get a better deal with a specialist insurer. I've always had older/classic cars since I was first driving and I've used these over the years. It's much easier now as I'm well over 25 and my classic is now my second/third car which the insurers seem to like:
Aon
Hagerty
Lancaster
Sureterm
RH Classics

My very first Classics, Karmann Ghia, Beetles, etc were all insured with the CIS, but I think they've gone the same way as your standard high street insurer.

Well I have got Lindsays Proof of no Claims this morning. 4 years available and bearing in mind she hasnt had a car insured for nearly 2 years and isnt 23 until tomorrow dont think she could have a better record in that respect. Still need to remove the Vandalism Claim that keeps appearing despite having withdrawn the claim before it paid out.

How daft is this then:

Was having a chat with Dan this morning, seeing if he had anything 'interesting' to sell or trade as I am still looking for a car for Lindsay. Anyway, he has got something 'interesting' so I done some insurance quotes on it with me as a named driver. Turns out that TPFT = £468.63 but FC = £369.79 :wall:

Why is it that comprehensive insurance is now cheaper than 3rd party? Its not the first time ive seen this either, especially where younger drivers are concerned.

Been like that for a while I think, more about supply and demand bringing the fully comp policy down in price. Effectively there are less underwriters offering 3rd party as nobody want it so less price choice.
