I wouldn't mind a bet that this is in fact the car that was advertised along with a red 96 and a white 900 a year or so ago. I remember that interior.

Your right Ian it is, I seem to recall the debate about the interior back then as well.

It might have been in the classics section rather than the 'Picks'.

Sorry if I shouldn't ask this here.

In the ad for the aero above it says it returns 28.6mpg around town! Is that about right?

tis fine - have a look at the rest of the thread..........

28.6mpg will be what the SID (Saab Information Display?) is showing - thats the combined mpg averaged since the last time it was reset. That sounds about right........I would be expecting around 20-24mpg around town rising up to 36-40mpg on a long run (figures will vary due to driving style  )
Looks ok, but I'd be digging deep around the rear arch with the rust......also pulling out the boot carpet that covers the two rear turrets - a favourite hidey place of the tin-worm

In my opinion, that's utter mince.

My experience with the 2.3 auto, both full pressure turbo (as this Aero is) and light pressure turbo is that the indicated mpg after a while will settle somewhere around the 23.8mpg mark, with a mixture of town and country running. I've done most of the mileage in London and Kent, so a fair mix of low mpg for town, briefly upped by m-way plodding.

If I were a cynical man, and I were making less than honest claims about what my ancient Saab could do for petrol consumption prior to selling on fleabay, I'd drive to the top of a steepish hill with a long downward gradient, reset the mpg counter, get into fourth and cruise down without touching the accelerator pedal, pull up, switch off the engine (important this, don't want the mpg going up whilst you're sat there fiddling with your camera) and then record my amazing mpg for all the world to marvel at. I'd then change the display to show temperature or summat and pray you didn't work out how to change it back before I'd got your hard-earned in my hand.

My current RedShed is showing 30.7mpg at the moment; that's over about the last 2,500 miles, including a bit of a sticky caliper, but mainly at national speed limits pootling along relatively empty roads, with short bursts of 'town' work. It really depends how you use it (I tend to get into third around town as quickly as possible) and where it's used. I reckon on getting around 450 miles out a full tank at least, so work on that basis, rather than what the display is telling me.

But that's just me.
