You would think pork?

I wonder how many dont check the ingredients thinking they are made from pork when infact the main ingredients are chicken and turkey :park:

Hotdogs should be 100% beef. Difficult to find as well. The kosher section in Sainsburys does them though.

The biggest concern for me is that they are made of mechanically recovered chicken meat - a big metal arm rips the meat off as the chickens are held up. I only buy quality pork hot dogs now, never Princes or Red ones or whatever they call them. Usually get the German ones from Sainsburys.

I thought mechanically recovered meat was done with high pressure water hoses scouring the last little bits of tissue off the carcasses, the residue is then strained off and formed into whatever product is being made :park:

why is it used? It's cheep
Doesn't taste too bad either once a bucket load of flavourings have been added

so you're quite happy to eat stuff when you don't know where it comes from.......yet as soon as you know the gory details you don't want anything to do with it - you may as well just turn veggie now

Blasted off with a pressure hose? That's even worse. Just looked it up on Wikki - they force it through a sieve to separate the meat from bones etc. The results are known as 'white slime' (chicken) and 'pink slime' (beef).

I know if you eat meat it is a bit contrary to be concerned about how the animal lived or exactly what's in the packet, but I still prefer to buy free range eggs and 'freedom foods' etc. I think they should label whether stuff is halal as well because I don't want to buy meat that's been killed without stunning first. Again, seems daft when it is being killed, but would still like to think it hadn't suffered needlesssly.

I don't think that's contrary at all. We should all be concerned about how an animal is raised and what's more important what it's been fed as well as it's welfare. I eat plenty of chickens but not supermarket ones at £2.00 each. Our local butcher supplies real free range orgasmic ones that may be upwards of £7.00 but they taste of chicken and have had a half-decent life scrattin' about the field.

Talking about chicken feet, went to the miss trinidad n tobago contest. I'd had a few lugers as it was being held in a cattle market in scaborough (not the most comfortable seating) n I saw a load of ppl eating what I thought was kebabs - with accompaniying vegetation so went n queued, it wasn't until I got to the front and saw that it wasn't a lovely juicy kebab

It was chicken feet!!!!!

Is this evidence of pigs having it away with chickens?, think that could be called pork clucking

Mc D's burgers were made from "pink slime beef" up until very recently, most of the cheap hotdogs don't actually contain any meat or animal parts, I was surprised when I saw that on the label.

Unless you grow your own veg and animals you can't trust whats on the shelf, most of the stuff out there is full of additives, preservatives, animals are given hormones and all sorts of steroids, antibiotics.

Does anybody remember the multimillion pound chicken scam a few years back? They reckon it was so widespread that 1 in 3 people in the U.K probably ate the rotten chicken meant for pet food, it was bleached and treated and then sold to major distributors, it was traced to the shelves of big name supermarkets and well known high street fast food outlets, Yummy!

Has anybody seen the film "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston, its only a matter of time, Sweeny Todd but on a bigger scale!

Clicky Soylent Green
