Ahhhhhhhh

trying to finish my restoration of my Sonett V4 and the final piece of the jigsaw is the windscreen...... the one I sourced a while ago from the US doesn't fit!!!! :haynes:

It appears to be slightly too tall and the bottom corners are wrong shape?!?! Could it be a Sonett III screen? I have been told that II/V4 and III screens are the same size and shape but they have different numbers in the saab manual (II/V4 - 7403 892 and III - 7418890).

Can anybody help? Anybody got a '67 Sonett II screen sat in the corner of their garage?!?!

this one looks quite flat, but that may just be the photo - there is a fairly big curvature towards the top of the screen both horisontally and vertically on the III - is that the same with this one?

Corners looks suspiciously III :argh:

:argh: those pics make the bonnet fit vs doors on my III look aweful - the Bonnet is a bit loose so thats another job to the list :haynes:

Hi,

Have you tried offering up the screen to the aperture without the rubber seal to see if it's the correct shape for the hole?

When refitting screens I've always put the seal on the screen rather than fitting it to the opening.

It may be an optical illusion, but your seal looks wider than Si's - is it the right part?

Well you are having a similar problem that we had with our Clan Crusader, we had to grind the fiberglass flange back as the screen would not even fit in the hole. I take it that a screen had been fitted, but you no longer have the orginal to compair?

I know that I'm stupid (no change there then) but...it isn't upside down is it? The corners look like it with one sharp bend and one more gentle curve. I was compairing it to the shape of the rubber.

the vertical curvature in the profile of the screen should be at the top (makes the sky look weird when driving along)

I reckon that goes - I would take the rubber out of the way and then two people offer it up - soon show you. Easy to say looking at the photos though but is surprising how tight they fit.

Thanks all.
I took off rubber and offered screen up to hole - tight top and bottom and a bit at the bottom corners. Tried being a bit more ruthless. Now having bottom of screen shaved. Will let you know......
