i really cant believe how good they are........
ive tried various good quality h7 bulbs, with blue tint and ultra white colour etc.
but.... these smd's are in a different league.

heres the smd - side lights only..........

now dipped beam........

heres a pic with the full beam on aswell so you can tell the difference.......i will eventually get smd's for the full beam aswell....
the full beam bulbs are high quality philips bulbs so they are good quality anyway:::

hi.

i received the cam cover from mart yesturday, so i couldnt wait to fit it.

while the cam cover was off i also took the opertunity to re-torque the headbolts. i have heard many many horror storys that these bolts can be finger tight, etc.
luckily mine were all tight. but........ loosend and then retorqued each bolt, in the correct sequence anyway. as a precautionary.

a few people helped me out with this......i'd like to say thanks to:
brookenstein - for lending me his amazing torque wrench it really is a nice bit of kit to work with)
hookedonboost - for lending me his e16 socket.

all will be returned in the week :)

so after retorquing the headbolts, i also fitted my new freshly painted cam cover and new cam cover gasket.

is this healthy???

Image

Image

after searching high and low in my garage (i new i had some, somewhere) i came across some loctite cam cover formulae

Image

top quality torque wrench :)

Image

cam cover fitted and bolts torqued to 15nm

also my brother has purchased a new toy, to replace his 1.4 fiesta.

he has ordered me to play about with it, as it needs a few things doing to it...
luckily headgasket & cam belt allready done, which is a bonus

Did you paint the camcover yourself? And what paint did you use?

Are all the cam covers interchangeable on the B2X2,B2X4,B2X5 engines? I quite like the old c900 ones.

When when applying the loctite, did you just do it in the areas described in haynes, or on the entire mating surface?

nope. mart93 painted it for me. :D

not sure about the b2X2, but the B2X4 & B2X5 are interchangeable.

i just applied the loctite where i thought was nessasary.............corners, humps etc.

Head looks reasonably healthy to me, a tad darker varnish compared with mine but that could just be the pictures.

Martin did my camcover too, does a tidy job. You should be fine using any camcover from the B2xx series engines, i've seen the old B202 covers on some modern engines so it should be doable, the pcv pipe bolt won't be usable though. (i wanted one for mine but never found one) Looks smart in yellow with a black DI, i think johno did one like that before he went with polished and chromed.

Do the headlight bulbs actually shed any useable light on the road Kev ?

The SMD fogs i had in my 9k looked cool 8) but were in reality pretty pants at lighting the verges which is what i wanted them for

tbh, allthough they are brighter.

they dont seem to light the road aswell as normall bulbs.
but im going to have a play around with them to see why this is :)

I really like those bulbs mate, never heard/seen them before. I have HID's on my 9000 for the dipped beam only and this makes the sidelights look very yellow and dim and also the full beam is weak in comparison so I might stick some of these in the sidelights to see how they fair. Does it make a check bulb error at all?

hey mate.

no check bulb errors atall which i was pleased with,
allthough i am going to take the dipped beam h7 bulbs out, as they are pants at lighting up the road.

so as some of you know, i split a coolant hose at the weekend..............
with the help from a forum member, and EURO-SAAB-PARTS-DIRECT (which i found was very helpfull and very quick to post out)
i got a replacement hose sent out very quickly... :)

i also changed my cabin filter as my air con wasnt working correctly.

im an air conditioning engineer..........so i can check everything myself.
checked the refrigerant pressures and everything was fine, but vacumed the system out and re-charged it.... still not really cold?? so im scratching my head now, i thought just like a normal commercial a/c system if the filters are blocked then it aint gonna circulate cold air.

so i decided to order a new pollen filter,

bit confused as the one in there was different to the one received.
quick search on google and all is well, fitted the new filter, = HAPPY DAYS

old v new
Image

Image

after installed sure enough, my a/c was blowing out very cold. so im really happy with that :)

also as i said earlier, i fitted the new hose to my engine.

here is a pic of the modified hose, i had to do this at the weekend to get me home. i used a socket set as a hose joiner and a bit of old ng900 recirulating dump valve hose i happend to have in me boot :)

Image
Image

but new hose is now on, and filled up with nice new coolant 70/30 mix :)

that heatshield looks surprisingly good actually, I may be interested in one myself...

I really wouldn't do this though.. especially the mudflaps and roof rack... each to thier own and all but I'd leave that sort of stick on stuff to kids in clapped out golfs, it's in the same league as back windows covered in stickers and rusted bonnets in my opinion.

The roof rack fairing is not a bad idea, but i wouldn't have it fitted with roof bars all the time. I've been after a fairing for my thule bars, but i've not seen one in this country. Yellow mudflaps sounds a bit OTT, but each to their own.

yea, you have got a point..................i am in two minds about the mudflaps as im not sure how well they will go? or even fit correctly?

wind deflectors, is something i think looks good.

thule fairing, is at the top of my list though, but is going to be costly, because i have to import from the states.

im just trying to think of different little touches i can add, that havnt been done allready, everyone wants their car to be different, but not tat. LOL
