I thought it was about time I did a project thread on my on going 9-3 coupe.
After a Few years of having a stage 4 9-5 two engine failures put me off Saab's but after a brief spell in another brand I came back.
The car I was coming back was the T5 engined 9-3 airflow. The car had been my mums for a few years. It had very low mileage and had a easy life, perfect for playing with.
One of the first jobs to be done for replacing the head bolts as it had the standard saab oil leak on the corner. Next on the shopping list was aero leather interior and viggen wheels. I managed to get these on ebay. The wheels need a refurb and thought I'd do it my self, I wanted the car to be different and stand out so I went with dark grey. To add to the black on silver theme tinted windows was next on the list. An aero spoiler has been fitted, looks so much better than the standard black one.
Now it was time to add a bit of performance, first job was fitting a massive intercooler followed by a hirsch stage 1 ecu and a de-cat shortly after. A Brake upgrade is must for me so 308mm's got fitted. More ebaying led to getting a cheap 3” JT cat back system followed by a stage 3 map. This kept me happy for a while until I got the chance to buy a TD04 and Full 3” abbott system, again bargain price.
An abbott lightened flywheel and viggen clutch have been fitted.
Custom re-map time was approaching so a set of green giants and a 3 bar map sensor got imported from the US. With the help of Jules we set about mapping and got it to the dyno. It produced 292bhp but was running quiet rich. Time for a wideband, got that fitted and sorted out the fueling. I would of thought it was good 300bhp now.
Other mod's include Painted engine bay parts and an oil catch can, that's caught nothing for a year now, but its shiney.
Handling comes from Koni's and abbott springs, steering rack brace, Piggy back ARB and a subframe brace. I also remove the re seats for trackdays ( and most of the summer) but lost stability in the shell so I made a rear brace to sort this out.
Future plans involve more power and some styling, hopefully all done by sept for the trackdays.
