Who's going to the SAAB International in the Netherlands in August?

I am thinking about it, but having looked at what it'll cost to get me and my car there, I think I'll be flying, if I go at all.
Around £800 from North Shields to ijmuiden
Around £650 from Hull to Rotterdam. (but £50 more petrol to get to Hull and back, compared with North Shields)

Much cheaper of course from Dover, but I wouldn't go there to take a ferry if someone else was paying the fare!!!

Is it really that much to sail from NE to NL now? I remember sailing the route often when I lived in Holland (Hull/Newcastle was much closer to N Wales) and paid nowhere near that much ...

2 Years ago The Northshields ferry was £650 including meals. That was me going to the IntSAAB 2017 in Germany.
Now the cheapest I could get around the right dates, was £770 excluding meals. Meals for myself and my wife there are back is another £100ish.
Ijmuiden, the Dutch port, is only 2 hours from the venue.

Northshields is 3 hours from my house, so very convenient.

Hull (5-6 hours from my house) - Rotterdam is about £650.

Dover is 10 hours from my house, (if passing London in the middle of the night), Calais to the venue, in NL, is 5 hours.
You can see why I'd rather eat worms, than use the ferry from Dover!

Problem is I'd have to factor in a hotel, both ways. Too old for these drive-a-thons......

It's 9 hours from East Fife to Harwich, according to Google maps, which means in reality, with stops etc, it's going to be 10 or 11.

3 hours on the other side to the venue.......

How long is the crossing from Harwich?

We haven’t done Harwich to Hook for a year or two, but there are day and night crossings, both about 8 hours.

When you check costs, we found that there were compulsory add-ons to the basic price. Chairs, cabins, extra passengers etc.

If I was you I'd take the night ferry and sleep on board. Leaves Harwich at 11pm and arrives at 8am, although looking at the website the Thursday evening ferry is pretty full already. Day sailings are 5½ hours.

Looks like return fare is £264 (Thurs/Mon - £110.50/£153.50) plus cabin (from £25).

Weerselo is about 120miles (2½hours) from the Hook.

Harwich to the Hook, a daytime sailing, & we're making a fortnight (ish) trip based around going to SaabInt.
Still thinking whether to book the Southern pretour.

We start from Bath & stay overnight at the Premier Inn at Harwich before embarkation
Returning the same route, again on a daytime sailing, with an overnight stay at Premier Inn. Colchester

We won't be camping, but are staying close by at Erve Fakkert in Rossum. There's about 18 UK cars so far from 368 Registered when I looked last

Safe Saabing: Effsweet

I'm thinking about going from Ayrshire but I'll be carrying the Saab GT850 on a trailer which makes the long sea routes very expensive so will probably go via Dover.

We have booked the overnight ferry from Harwich on the Tuesday before and coming back a week later on the day sailing. Was all very value I thought.

Hopefully see some of you other Saabers on board. We will probably be in the 96 Souvenir.

BTW there is a 20% sale on at the moment so a good time to book.

Criminal that they stopped the Catamaran, that used to cut the time down substantially.... Hoek van Holland was only 40 odd mines from my flat in Den Haag. So it was either the 9 hour standard crossing or driving down to Duinkerque, and risking Antwerp Ring, in 3 hours. Dover-Duinkerque won.

I won't be going guys.
Family issues make it impossible.
Cancelled the Harwich ferry I had booked, and got my £300 back, minus a £6 admin fee, which I thought was pretty decent.
North Shields ferry normally has a "no refund" policy.

I'll just have to content myself with SAAB Fest at Bury, end of July.

Aalten is located approximately 70 km from Weerselo.
A nice drive to the Achterhoek. You can drive through Germany as well as through the Netherlands.

My car came from Kent (Tonbridge), but hasn't been back since I drove it away in August 2013.

Since I live in Fife, I don't think I'd take the Dover crossing even if someone else was paying the fare!. A long, long way, and that pesky city of London to get round. I know some people from up in this neck of the woods use Dover, but travel south overnight, so that they hit London in the early hours of the morning. If I was 40 years younger, I might do that.
In the seventies I lived in Portsmouth, (With my green 96), and thought nothing of hammering up to Fife and back for the weekend, but not now!

In the end I didn't make it to NL. My old mum, who's in her ninth decade, wasn't well.

Anyway, the International? Come on guys, who was there? Was it a good meet.

Four of us went from SOC NW. Hull to Rotterdam ferry, reasonable ticket price and good food options in 'The Kitchen' plus helpful staff. It's a good ferry trip, though four guys in a small cabin is a little tight. Trip to Weerselo was good.The roads all around were GREAT.
Two bars in Ootsmarsum were asked as we called in for a late night pint, "What time do you close please?" The reply was "Oh, 2 to 3am, but if you want to drink some more, then, later for you".
We were most impressed by Dutch hospitality!
The event was very good in a big place with indoor and outdoor things going on. A line-up of 13 Saab 99 cars facing 9 Sonetts! plus very interesting cars and people. The food in the evenings was good with a big buffet selection including some excellent hot dishes to suit all tastes. WELL DONE TO THOSE ORGANISERS! The 'tour' was brilliant but must have been of a concern to locals with all those Saab cars going in different directions through beautiful villages. Nearly 700 saabs on show,as well as many stalls offering parts etc.
The weather was good too! We hope to visit Denmark next year.
