Good effort Peter, glad youre sticking with the B engine, im a big fan of the duplex timing gear, they look so purposeful

So, finally got to spend some time in the barn this afternoon and the rebuilt 'B' engine is now back where it belongs: in the car! It took me 5 hours but I'm quite chuffed. Engine in, drive shafts back in position, after market exhaust back on (tricky one!) starter and speedo connected. Tomorrow it's radiator and hoses, gear linkage, a bit of wiring and see what happens!

OK, so I decided not to push my luck trying to start the car and instead spent a good few hours tidying the wiring and pipe-work post removal of the LPG system. Also re-routed the speedo cable, found and fitted a gear lever knob (missing for some unknown reason) re-fitted the radiator, removed various odds and sods from under the dashboard and generally gave the car time to settle after its transplant. Not entirely sure I've wired the alternator correctly as I swapped the original one which had noisy bearings with one I had in stock... I guess time will tell :park:

Jobs left to do are blanking off two water pipes that fed part of the LPG system (cooling/heating?) connect non-standard exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe under the car, secure the gearbox dipstick holder, fit air filter box, connect battery, check fuel level and... Turn ignition!

Wow, did you all hear that?? That was PLW 452W firing-up after many months of tinkering. Really pleased with result so far, just need to bleed the clutch and connect the rear exhaust section before I can take my maiden drive in her :D :D

So! After a final push that saw a new carburettor sourced, the alternator refurbished and a long list of little niggles sorted, PLW was finally awarded her MOT certificate. Add to that insurance cover and six months tax and she is now legally on the road!  Drove her from Suffolk to London at a gentle 60/65mph and glad to report nothing fell off... When on the A406, North Circular Road, a brand spanking new Mercedes coupe drew along side me, the passenger shouting compliments across and then inviting me to race.... errr, no thanks mate

Next stop? Goodwood Revival on Sunday, wish me luck!

I wish everyone would stop setting the bar so high with what they are doing to their 99s. Mine may never see the light of day again to reach that standard.

Jolly fine looking machine sir.
