Sarbkar used to be at the very end of Aigburth road, just before the Garston by pass on the way to Speke but recently when i drove past there it was something different?

A big part of why I own and run four Saab's is the great affordable friendly service I get from Will at William Morgan Saab specialist

Tell: 0117 9535 362
2a Highbury Road
Bedminster
Bristol

as Nev mentioned it's a bit hard to find but well worth the effort

Our second Saab 900 lives in Nottingham most of the week. I wanted a place where once you take your car for a problem, it doesn't come back with more new problems or worse problems than it originally had before it even went in. That's one of the most crucial things about garages and that is honesty and pricing. I was hoping to get such a garage in Nottingham. Hopefully Nottingham Saab is such a place :?:

Like I said, try calling Sarbkar - they were helpful when I had trouble a few years back.

Regarding the North West - I'd try Merseyswede if I were you. I only went to Sarbkar once (and I really don't mean to do them any disservice here, I just think it's best that people have a good idea of what's out there) and paid a lot of money for a very small job. On the other hand I know someone (with a great deal of money) who has taken their Saabs there for years and years. Since Tony (the owner) worked at Mayfield Saab and have nothing but praise. On the other hand Merseyswede is about ten + miles away for them and Sarbkar is round the corner.

Sarbkar - £60 per hour (+ vat)

Merseyswede - £38 per hour. Enough said?! For me anyway.

For me, the hourly rate on an older car is very important as big jobs have a habit of jumping out on your with increased frequency, running two old cars means I'm not exactly flush all the time!

The quality of the work from Merseyswede is excellent, very quick, very thorough, in the past month I've had new head gasket, timing gear, gearbox fluid pipe replaced (between rad and box I think, corroded to h*ll leading to complete loss of fluid), new engine mount, aircon rumbling sorted out, new idle control valve, window swith, door light, all sorts of things. I'm a perfectionist so wouldn't recommend anyone who wasn't tip top. They're very very friendly, always have time for you if you pop by even if they've got a lot of work on. The owner is Roy Hedges and he and Derek are a veritable walking encyclopaedia on Saabs, Roy himself drives a beautiful T16 convertible in bright red... yum. You can even ring them on the mobile at any time too. Great.

Also they have an ample supply of bits and bobs - second hand parts for some vehicles, always breaking classic 900s and occasionally a 9k.

The service at Sarbkar was very friendly, polite, seemed like very nice people but I've had a few people locally tell me not to go there but I don't know why apart from the price. People will make up their own minds. As far as I'm concerned with workmanship, professionalism, friendliness etc as good as Merseyswede at £38 an hour, why pay a third more on top?

MERSEYSWEDE - 17/19 Mosedale Road, Liverpool, L9 3BX (at the end of the dead end road and turn left) tel: 0151 525 6545

For those of you in the area it's around Longmoor Lane, near the Black Bull, going from town down County Road keep going, across the big roundabout, past sainsbury's on your right go under the railway bridge and take your first left.

I'm not saying Sarbkar is bad, some say they wouldn't go there for their own reasons but I know some who say they've never had anything but good, quality service and would never change. Even the best garage in the world has it's opponents. My experience of them is very limited. I'm just controlled by price a bit more. Sorry if I've offended anyone here and sorry for the huge post! Got a bit carried away!

P.S. They also do Volvos...

Two recommendations down my way:

Kingston Autos in Norbiton, 020 8399 4949 (speak to Paul). Not a Saab specialist, simply a bunch of very competent mechanics (mostly Polish) who will turn their hand to anything, with generally excellent results. They rebuilt my T16S Convertible after it was rear-ended, did the head gasket on my Volvo 960 and fixed my 900SE after a "Saab specialist" a couple of miles away had forgotten to replace a track-rod properly ...

Carlssons Saab in Leatherhead, 01372 370366 (Nigel and Tim). Excellent work, really nice chaps, and a decent fleet of 9000s as courtesy cars. They're servicing my T16S at this very moment.

Thanks James!
There seems to be a distinct lack of saab people my way, it's good to know there is someone good around. I'm not far from leatherhead or kingston.

"Clive" is an Ex. Reading Saab engineer. He done his apprenticeship at Reading Saab and worked there for nearly 10 years before leaving at setting up on his own.
His quality of work is Superb and hes very cheap too.
For example he is about to change the clutch on my 9K Aero. £200 + parts.

Highly recomended.

EDIT: *** Clive has just moved to the Manor Farm estate in Henley on Thames. Approx 5 mins from his old address.
Now has a much bigger workshop.

In Derbyshire try Hallam and Suthern in Swadlincote, first class service at a sensible price and they sell some nice motors too. Carnetix in Melton Mowbray are also excellent.

If you live in the South Wales Area I would definitely recommend South Wales Saab Specialists (SWSS) in Cardiff 02920 473040 . It is run by 3 ex-master technicians who left the local Saab dealer to set up on their own. They are very friendly and helpful and have an excellent knowledge of all Saab's. I have also heard that Saabstyle in Taffs Well are very good but we have never used them as SWSS is nearer.

After having used their services for the first time today, I would recommend Jaycee for great customer care, prompt service and very realistic charges.

Danny knows his Saabs, is a nice guy to deal; with and goes the extra mile to help keep my Griffin (@200,000miles!) on the road soundly and economically.

No connection, yadda, yadda, just a (very) satisfied customer.

Best, B

All,

A quick note to those of you in the area, Saabtech UK Ltd run by Ian Ward and Jenny Eldred. They have been in Stevenage since Jan this year. And during last week, I gave them a visit and

Full polyuerethene bushing put on my 9-3 (good-bye body-roll ) and a problem with my turbo-boost fixed ( !)

A very good job done, helpful, friendly and informative, very much recommend a visit, whether you need a service or more power! (they have a tie-up with Maptun too!)

After all the comments on a locked thread in the Coffee shop from people who obviously haven't had any hands on dealings with The Saab Workshop in Hull. Sean Pepper's Saab Workshop is highly recommended. I've bought my first 9000 Carlsson from him and numerous parts over the years, some on sale or return to eliminate unknown faults. His contact list of 'people to know' in the Saab trade is second to none and he has always been very helpful in directing me to other sources if he didn't have what I wanted at the time. His workmanship is excellent and he stands by everything he does.
Downside, if I can use the term is he's a Yorkshireman, and calls a spade a spade.....bit like Steve at Malbrad...must be something in the water.

Can't say anything but good about Richard at Saabtec.Limped my car there in stagger-home mode, quite a trek too but he sorted it in no time at all.I'll be going back to get it serviced later and anything else I can't manage myself for that matter. If you're in the Manchester area and don't like main dealer prices give him a try.
