As I'm in the middle of nowhere here I've decided to buy a tech2 unit, is there a preferred supplier for a good unit?

Thanks.

Generally come from China/HK as clones. Quality can be variable so its a bit of a gamble for around £250. There some clones from the UK (imported by sellers) for around £450 on ebay. Some on here have bought from Aliexpress, I think they offer some form of warranty. The real deal (GM item) will cost around £2k second hand, more new if available as it is superseded by MDI.

I seem to remember they do variations of "quality"

Thanks both, I understand it would be a clone. Is it just a gamble when it comes to quality then? I was hoping there was a tried and trusted seller.

Is there a preferred usb to serial adaptor that works consistently?

I think I'll just bite the bullet & order this one:

Assuming you are Spain there will be shipping, import duty, import service charge and IVA on the lot

The link I posted I think has been used successfully by a few people - and as they claim to be UK based should be no import hassles.

Also some info here https://www.saabcentral.com/forums/show ... p?t=260738

Will have a look at the links as investing in a Tech 2 is something I have been considering for a while...

Islandsaab,

The only one on the link you provided that's sent from the UK is this one: http://www.obd2shop.co.uk/wholesale/che ... ard-d.html The card is sent from china though, that'd be a pain having a tech2 sat here after a few days, then waiting weeks for the card :D it doesn't fill me with confidence when under "quality" it says best price, lol

Vermin,

Whereabout in Brum are you? I left Brum in December, not missing it much yet though :D

I bought mine from Aliexpress 3 years ago.

Something like this which is delivered in 1-2 weeks usually and you will probably have to pay duty on it (mine cost me about £20 from recollection.

Aliexpress' protection policy will cover you.

In addition to this, however, you'll need some cracked TIS2000 or GlobalTIS software, and if you don't have a PC with a serial port, you'll need a USB to serial converter cable with a Prolific chipset - the Tech2 is very fussy over what it needs.

Also, never enter the SPS menu in a tech2 clone. Can't remember why, but like one of the newest monkeys in the 5 monkeys experiment, I'm not entering the menu on mine to find out.

Thanks for that, I already have globaltis installed, I am looking for a usb adaptor at the moment.

I did read somewhere about the SPS menu locking the tech2 up.

Not to far from me then, I was just by the airport.

If it helps, I bought this exact cable from this exact seller and it works perfectly.
Windows XP SP3, TIS2000
