Your efforts and significant investment are greatly appreciated! :-) "We" would mostly stay however if the forum were to adopt carrier pigeons. Looking forward to see how it works out with the new provider.

Thanks for your efforts on running the best forum.

So, have we made the hop yet?
Seems to be less slugging in peak hours, and want to know if its just a fluke of luck or if its actually done!

Just a fluke - but it is well underway. Will try to give advance warning before the actual move.

OK, spoke to the new hosts today. As the last hosts were useless and the forum database has not been upgraded in any way over the last few years, the migration cannot be done automatically and will have to be done manually. This means that they are unsure of how long it will take. In addition, apparently our software is quite old :D so that may take a bit longer as they update things to make it all work again. They have gone of to talk it over to come up with a best guess as to how long it will take, and will let me know. They are also going to give us 24 hours notice of when they will do it. They offered to do it at weekend or evening, but stressed that normal working hours would be more efficient as they will have more people available. As UKS tends to be a 24/24 7/7 site, I have told them to do it when it best suits them.

So far, the communication and attitude of the new company seems to be miles ahead of the old one, so it is looking hopeful. They hope to come back to me again this afternoon, so will update when they do.

As promised, an update. The migration will take place on Thursday 26th January, "early in the morning". A maintenance page will be put up for the duration so hopefully we will not lose anything and all will go smoothly.

Fingers crossed!

There are still some problems, although the actual move has been completed. I am on the case with the hosts, but office hours are getting in the way!

Well, after several phone calls, all now seems to be working fine. Even the clock is now right

If anyone does find a problem, let me know so we can get it sorted.

Seems to be smoother and quicker now. I will leave this announcement up until this evening then remove it if no more problems come to light.

It does seem smoother and quicker. The "Search" function is a fair bit quicker so I'm guessing the database is running more quickly.
As for reliability, well it hasn't fallen over yet
Only time will tell on that score but I would hope it's more reliable given what it's costing

Nice one, chaps 8)
