450bhp is unreal! What an achievement! Think my 2.8T max through jzw is only 30bhp or so more.

An awesome sleeper! Well done!

Thanks Si

It's been a journey to say the least!

I've not really driven it hard until a day or so ago and even that was only a full third gear pull, but it's so utterly ballistic it's borderline scary, going to take some time to get used too.

It's still incredibly linear which really took me by surprise, it never sounds harsh or like it's being wrung out, it just pulls and pulls and pulls, still pulling like a train at 7000rpm in fact but I guess that's where the cams come on strong post 4k.

Looking forward to using 4th & 5th in full on anger too, but I'll bide my time I reckon!

Take good care.

Yamas!

I'm sure you will look after and enjoy.
480bhp will be possible I'm sure.

What turbo housing did you end up with?
0.86AR? Do you know?

Thanks Kev

It's certainly been a long time coming bud!

I'm using a 0.64ar turbine housing currently, but I do have a 0.86ar sat here should I decide to use it. Tbh I want to get everything settled and happy before I push on, if indeed I decide too.

I've just had a small oil leak from the turbo oil return pipe which I think I've now sorted, so the shakedown continues for the time being. If I'm happy in a couple of weeks a local garage is running a rolling day, so I may pop it on the rollers just to see where I'm at and take a look at the map plots.

But we'll see what happens in the meantime, there's no rush.

Take good care.

Yamas!

How much ealier do you think it spools up now with the tubular & billet wheel? Cam cover looks great budd, very po'sh :D

Hi Dave

Great to hear from you bud, I hope life is treating you well.

Thanks for your kind words reading Oliver's vlog, he was really proud of it and I have to say that we all were too, he captured the spirit really well. It was such a great weekend and it was so good to document it like that, even the music he chose was perfect, but then I'm aloud to gush as he's my son!

The work that everyone put in was amazing and we laughed as hard as we worked, even the weather held off until literally we had it started which was another bonus and certainly contributed to an unforgettable couple of days.

In answer to your question the response from the tubular and billet wheel is absolutely incredible, much more so than previously, which is saying something as it was hardly slow before, despite what one idiot on this forum seems to think about GT30's, they ain't laggy in the slightest!

The cams have made a big difference, the car is still very drivable which surprised me a lot tbh, it responds well low down albeit not like it used too, but I was expecting that. However, once the turbo is spooling there is an utterly ridiculous amount of performance on tap and then at just below 4k it goes completely bananas and holds on until well over 7k, it's absolutely devastating tbh, it never stops pulling, but as I said before there's no drama, it just picks up its skirt and it's gone.

Still some way to go yet tho, in terms of fettling so I'll see what happens next, should be interesting!

Take good care.

Yamas!

Bring on the dry weather and a few decent runs......videos are essential though!

Cheers bud, very kind if you to say.

I think holding out was firstly financial and then became just because it suited me tbh, I knew what I had and what its potential was so I just bided my time and tried to push on with how I wanted to go about things. I've always planned every aspect of my build to the minute detail and its served me well, the car was running VERY well before these latest mods and subsequently so I just decided to wait.

As mentioned, I finally got the chance to do a couple of full third gear pulls over the weekend and it was absolutely ridiculous, so there's plenty more to come in time. I'll try and do a video perhaps but only if the circumstances are right, still a way to go before I do that tho I reckon tbh!

But watch this space as the saying goes!

Many thanks again.

Yamas!

Sadly I'm not claiming 450bhp (yet!  ) as the car hasn't been dynoed and I'd certainly never make such a claim without something to back it up.

The car made 386bhp/485nm before these latest mods, but given how it feels now compared to what went before, all I can say is that the difference is pretty massive, so it'll be interesting to see where it's at, which I may be able to do in a few weeks, provided that everything is ok in the meantime.

If I can establish a base reading for these mods, it'll give us an idea of where the mapping can be improved and optimised to draw the very best out of the setup, so all being well I'll be able to do that.

There is potential to get to around the 500bhp mark, especially as I have a larger turbine housing sat here should I choose to use it, but we'll wait and see.

Right now I have other priorities as to what to do next so I'll address those first.

Thanks again.

Yamas!

Great to hear from you my friend.

It's been a long time coming and a real labour of love, sweat, anxiety and pretty much everything else tbh, sometimes I thought it was never going to come together and even tho there are still plenty of things I want to do, it's certainly getting there.

Thanks for you kind words regarding the Vlog too, it was my lads first attempt at a car Vlog and he did it really well, but then I'm somewhat biased!

Take good care.

Glad you enjoyed my build thread, it's taken a while to get it to where it is!

Thanks for your kind comments - so far the car has been excellent although I've still to use it properly in anger, I've not been anywhere yet where I've been able to exploit 4th and 5th gears, just run out of road to quickly, or it becomes to busy.

As for figures, I'm hoping to have some solid info fairly soon.

Small update.

Just a little tickle regarding progress.

I'm hoping to make another small mod to my exhaust system over the next couple of weeks before I finally get the car on the rollers for a base run to see how it's performing and where it can be improved/optimised further. I'm having a few problems with my head currently which is causing me to lose faith in all of the work that's been put into the car, tbh it's a royal pain in the bottom but I can't seem to snap out of it so hence the delay.

Anyhoo, besides that, I also managed to procure a new boot lid which is sporting a rather nifty Abbott Racing Ducktail Spoiler! - So I'm hoping to change the look of the car slightly over the next week or so.

Image
Image

I've never been totally happy with the spoiler on my car, I dunno why, but the Abbott spoiler is a really subtle fit which I like a lot, so I'm delighted to have found one. I think it'll just be a bootlid swap as attempting to remove the Abbott item I reckon could be very difficult. Must say a huge thanks to James Vey for helping me sort everything out with him - top fella he is!

So there you go, granted not too exciting but another step along the way!

Hopefully I'll get another update to post fairly soon.

Yamas!

Brief update.

Build is still ongoing (aren't they all!), so just a small modification to the under bonnet blingy side of proceedings!

I was very fortunate to acquire a rather nice carbon fibre top mount from a certain Mr eDDmaster which has been sat languishing at the back of my living room for the past few months so decided it was time to fit it.

I think it looks great - very purposeful without being especially ott and adds very nicely to the understated but industrial look of my engine bay which I prefer.

A few pics.

Still plenty more to do regarding aesthetics, which I'm hoping to sort out in the relatively near future, along with one or two other bits 'n' bobs - funds permitting - but isn't it always!
