The original Reliant brake drums were badly rusted and beyond the hope of skimming the friction surfaces. Of course suitable replacements are no longer available, but a possible option are mk3 Mini units. These are cheap at £11 each, but require machining out the spigot facing to mount onto the stub axles. This was done by a local engineering firm.

Unfortunately these drums are also too deep for the stub axles, meaning they foul on the backing plates. I could either spend the same money again having the rear faces machined to clear, or fabricate spacers to sit behind the drum faces and allow the drums to clear the backing plates. Chose to make up the spacers instead from 5mm steel discs.
