Thanks Jim! hopefully have it run in for Glamis!

this was the pile so far of what was cut out, bear in mind a lot had rotted to dust so was simply swept up!
And it isn't counting the doors and bonnet which I'm aiming to sort over winter

Fantastic Ian 8)
So chuffed for you after the journey you have been on getting it to the point it's now at and to have driven it now too.
Such a cool looking car, nice and solid too. Those 1850's are such a sweet, smooth engine. Easy enough to convert to twin carbs too, just get a set from a Dolomite with manifold, instant increase in performance.
Looking forward to seeing how the story continues from here :corn:

Don't worry Mal, it's only getting painted where it really needs it, and it's definitely not getting polished!

Trailer Queens are nice to look at, but just as important are those cars that display their age and use.

Absolutely fantastic!!,

Ian you have done an amazing job and with a few photos made it look so straightforward. I know what's involved in even modest restoration jobs and this was far from modest!!

When I compare this to the TV show restorations with all the resources and budget they have to throw at projects, it makes them look trivial.

WELL DONE YOU and thanks for sharing your journey!

Red 99, White 99 and Blue 99 at Glamis will keep Andy
Deans happy for his French Flag Bastille Day theme 8)

Now we need a Green 99 so that I can make an Italian Flag too

Just a thought Ian . . . . .I assume that you have taxed it as a Vehicle of Historic Interest over 40 year's old which would qualify for zero tax. :?

Looking forward to the convoy down to Glamis

Cheers

Thanks for the encouragement folks.
One thing I learned from this: when you take a really rotten car home, take it to bits in a position that blocks everything else in, so you HAVE to finish it!

As Stig pointed out the car is indeed tax AND Mot exempt, I've exempted it from both but that does mean(as with everyone in their modern cars) the responsibility is on me to make sure that each day the car is on the road it's right

The tyres turned up today so I fitted the soccerballs, they're probably a year or so too new for the car but the 99 that inspired me to have a 70's 4dr had them so for now they're staying!!

it drives beautifully!
bodywork, underseal, and some blue paint next, and then wheel arch trims! I know I've left a lot of rust but it is structurally very strong!

I know, I had my doubts but they really suit the car!!

In the end I went for 165 80 15 after trying a couple of other sizes, I thought since the 175 70 15 prices are high and the used ones I’d ordered were scrap, I’d rather have it slightly over rather than under, hopefully the stance is right!

I had a free day today so I took the 99 back into the shed and I did the minor filler work both arches needed,
here's an in progress photo, ready to sand back
ImageUntitled by ianlaw99, on Flickr

Then blended in the repairs, i kept the paint as localised as I could, maybe a maximum of 6" radius of the arch, then took it to the pub for a soft drink. I think the doors will buff up to the same colour, it all looks the same wet!

It fairly has a distinctive look!!

tonights jobs were putting on a few coats of underseal in the inner arches and bits of the floor I can get to, then finding and fitting what is left of the chrome arch trims. All good fun, really enjoying this being a functioning car!

sorry for the dull photos of the arches, they look ok in real life, I went back and got behind the rear shock after seeing the photo!!

Fantastic job, Ian. Well done!

There seems to be quite a current theme of patinated early 70s Mid-Blue Saabs hitting the road...I must get Rose's 96 back out again soon!
