Days at the coast in a 99 are good days.

It's attracting a bit of attention wherever it goes, some like it, others are repulsed when I say I'm not painting it :D

Disgusted and intrigued....(is that a dogging spot?)!

Nothing disgusting about that vehicle, it's had a life and is still alive and kicking (if only he knew how much surgery had been necessary.....).

Most importantly, you're using the car as a car, not as some museum piece and it looks fabulous just the way it is!

The 99 has been getting used and used and used, it is such a lovely tight old car, it has more body roll than the later cars I've driven but it takes everything in it's stride.

The last outing was to the fantastic Buckie car show where Dad was having a day out with his Aero

I didn't have mine booked in so it got a nice spot at the roadside

I'm hoping to use it as transport to one of the bigger shows next year, in the meantime i've rust protected it with Dinitrol and I'll use it until the salt comes :D

Glad to see it's getting plenty of use Ian.
Your Dads Aero is a saloon, very nice. My preferred shape when it comes to 900s (either 2 or 4 door form).
That beige/yellow 99 looked very nice too.

This thing hadn't been out for a while so I decided to take it to the UKSAABS Christmas meal this weekend. after undersealing it I spotted a minor problem
ImageUntitled by ianlaw99, on Flickr
so this afternoon I took the engine out, glued the pulley together to the best of my ability, engine back in after supper tonight and we're ready for a blast to Aberdeen tomorrow!

Thanks for the positive words, I was just determined to give it as good a go as I could!

The old 99 actually ran like a watch all the way to the meet and back, Dad, and the man who's responsible for the Saab obsession, Allan Mcdonald turned up in the morning and we drove the 50 miles or so, would've been even better if the heater was going!

Fortunately we got the heater going for the return journey.
The car looks rough but actually drives so well.

If you've ever wondered what a 99 with badly aged paint, smothered in Ankor Wax, left out in the frost for a day or two looks like, this it what it looks like..

I had a last minute dash to the shops with it before Christmas, the roads were slippery and it held itself so well.

Not sure how old you are Ian but I had my 99 out in the cold at RAF Leuchars during the 'great freeze' of 1981, it snowed, then partly thawed, then froze solid for around 2-3 weeks IIRC, I had to go out and change my clutch parked outside the house in that - brrrrrrrr.

The car was fine though, you can't beat a car designed for that environment, a great choice for your location therefore :)

Ian, registered on forum today and my first read is your complete thread on your repairs to your 99 4door.

Inspirational and terrifying all at the same time!

Great stuff to read and link saved to my desktop directly to it for use in the future.

I've recently acquired a 1972 99L 2door and am working through some renovations and repairs to make it properly usable on a daily basis. This time last year it belonged to a friend and had a dead triumph engine. It arrived on my driveway to have a B engine fitted and away it went a couple of months later.

It totally charmed me while working on it and when the opportunity arose - it came back to stay.

I don't 'think' it's anywhere near as rotten as the horrors you uncovered and I count myself lucky but can hell but think I need to check and peel some underseal off...

I've done that before on other cars and it never ends well!

Good choice of other car as well by the way... My 99 parks next to a 1990 audi coupe quattro 20v :D
