Well it has been a while since I have updated this thread even though dad has been busy with progress (especially during lockdown)!!!

There has been a slight change with the running gear............it was originally going to be a T5 engine conversion, but this has now turned into a full wiring harness change…………this has involved pulling out the old dashboard and completely rewiring the car using the wiring from a 1997 Saab 9000 Anniversary. Whilst the dashboard was out dad decided to fit the anniversary dashboard and take advantage of the climate control system wiring being in the car! The brakes have also been changed to the later setup from the donor car. This has been successful and is now driving and stopping. The car is still going to be an auto for now as that is what we had to hand and was the quickest way to get the car on the road………we have left the manual pedal box in the car as we have sourced a 2.3 long block with manual gearbox, that will be converted to T5 over time and then just engine change once the T5 conversion is complete.

The old worn out seats have been stripped out of the car and it currently has an anniversary driver’s seat fitted……………. complete anniversary interior will be fitted once complete.

Luckily, the doors on the donor car were in good condition (even though they are not the correct colour), as the original doors were in a bad way and would have taken a lot of repairing.

Image

The sills have been primed and stone chipped in order to protect them underneath the skirt kit.

The sunroof has been wired up…….there was a non-genuine sunroof fitted the donor roof but it is a very good Webasto electric tilt and slide roof so this has been wired up and will be masked off when painting the roof.

Image

About 3 years ago I bought a NOS tailgate catch that was never used…………..I had a message from dad the other day saying that it had come in handy as the original on the tailgate had been completely mangled.

Image

In between doing all of these jobs, dad has still found time start polishing up the original paint work to see what painting is required…………..luckily the original paint work is in very good condition and it has come up very well even after a quick hand polish.

I’m sure there will more updates soon.

Adam

Some more updates on this project............Dad has had a busy time recently..........................

First off was to inspect behind the wheel arch trims to see what they were like and if they required any work
Image
Image
They look good to us!!!!

Next job was to prime the bumpers and side skirts ready for a fresh coat of black paint
Image
Image
Image
Oooooops dodgy paint..................dried all bubbly due to water in the compressor (never mind though, will soon flat and repaint)

All sorted now!!!
Image
Image

One of the wheel arch trims needed a pit of touching up..................so we just repainted it............was a bit cold and damp at the time so a hot air gun was brought in to assist
Image

Final job in this update was to paint the new roof that was put on near the start

New roll of brown paper.....................check
Image

Mask areas off........................check
Image

Prime roof.......................check
Image

6 coats of gloss black paint........................check

More updates to follow soon.................

Adam

This is a great thread for a great project.
I'm learning a lot from it, so thankyou for the detailed pictures.
Kind Regards,
