Turbo Killer has been off the road for sometime, auto to manual conversion on my '82 900 and the arrival of Lancer Evo 6 TME has reduced my spare time, although I'm not complaining :)

I totally rebuilt the rear axle sometime ago and I have been wanting to tidy up the front suspension, I decided to stop thinkning about it and get it done!
The top wishbones will get done when I next take the engine out.
This has also given me the chance to inspect the driveshaft tunnels and give them a clean, considering the age of the car, over 30 years old, the lower parts of the tunnels are just a bit scabby were the old waxoyl has failed.

Lower wishbones dismantled ready for blasting and powder coating, the previous owner must have kept waxoyl in business, the ball of wax in the middle is just from one wishbone!

I wanted to fit some larger wheels, 16''. I found a set of Borbets, these are quite rare and are from an '80's Nissan, everything was perfect apart from the spigot centre, which needed to be opened up. They fit and look perfect along with some decent rubber.

Wow. They really set the car off. Is the offset correct because the seem to be sticking out a little from the arch and you could get pulled over by pc plod

The offset is fine, they just line up with the wheel arch, it probably looks like this because the car is on axle stands in the pic and the gap has increased.

HELLO MARCBOY1020,

THE OFFSET IS ET40(OOPS MAKE THAT ET30,TYPING ERROR AT 06.30 IN THE MORNING...ANYTHING MORE THAN ET35 WILL RUB ON THE REAR SPRING PANS  ),7.5 J 16 INCH DIAMETER.....

PERHAPS THE FIRST PHOTO,GIVES A BETTER IMPRESSION....?

SECOND PHOTO IS THE 'WORK'S CAR IN SAAB MUSEUM...RUNNING COMPOMOTIVES

LAST PHOTO IS THE SAME 'BORBET' ALLOY DIMENSIONAL SPECIFICATION(DIFFERENT STYLE) FITTED TO MY COMPETITION 99 TURBO.....

THE RACMSA(MOTOR SPORTS ASSOCIATION GOVERNING BODY) SCRUTINEERS,INSPECT YOUR 'ENTRY' ON EVERY EVENT BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED UP TO THE 'START' LINE....?

AS I RUN IN THE 'ROAD-GOING' CLASS WITH THE 99 TURBO,THE SPEC OF THE CAR MUST MEET THE 'CONSTRUCTION&USE' CRITERIA....? I CAN ASSURE YOU 'RACMSA' SCRUTINEER'S...ARE FAR MORE DEMANDING IN THEIR EXPECTATION'S THAN ANY 'MOT' TESTER.....(OF WHICH I HAVE BEEN)

'BORBET' IS THE ONLY MANUFACTURER WE HAVE COME ACROSS,THAT MAKES A 16 INCH WHEEL THAT WILL FILL THE ARCHES,AND GIVE JUST ENOUGH CLEARANCE,ON THE INNER WHEEL ARCHES/SUSPENSION COMPONENT'S USING THE 114.3 PCD.

THEY MAKE A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE,TO THE FOOTPRINT AVAILABLE, TO GET THE POWER DOWN....(AND BEING ABLE TO STOP)IF YOU USE, THE CORRECT TYRE'S :corn:

OF COURSE,IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE ALLOY'S SPECIFICALLY MANUFACTURED TO YOUR REQUIREMENT'S,LIKE THE ORIGINAL COMPOMOTIVES FITTED TO THE 'WORKS' SAAB 99'S OR SUCHLIKE...?

I CAN ASSURE YOU,THAT WHEN I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER BY 'PC PLOD',IT WASN'T THE WIDTH OF THE WHEEL'S OR TYRE'S,THAT HE WAS INTERESTED IN....?

'PROJECT TURBO KILLER' IS A VERY,VERY QUICK CAR......AND IT SOUND'S AWESOME AT FULL CHAT,REVVING FAR AND AWAY ABOVE,THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SPEC ENGINE....

AND THAT WAS WHEN I WAS SAT IN THE DRIVING SEAT OF MY 99 TURBO,WITH A MIRROR FULL OF 'TURBO KILLER'.....

UNDER TEST CONDITION'S......?

OF COURSE

Lovely cars. Flip me im now really getting the Saab bug. Only reason i mentioned it was i got a verbal warning from mr pc plod about my wheels on the 400bhp supra i used to own. I had a set of buddyclub p1 19 inch wheels with a tyre width i think ( memory is pants ) of 9.5 inches or 10 anyway, i had to run spacers on the front or they wouldnt turn propperly, so in order to keep the footprint the same i had to run spacers on the back and they slighly stuck out by .5mm over the arches, i got around it using rear tyres with a sidewall that was negative, but it didn't stop me being pulled for what even mr pc plod could see was a moot point and was down to his discretion weather i got a roadworthiness ticket, fortunately he didnt check undernath the car as it had a full 4 inch decat. Lol

The engine in 'Turbo Killer' revs to around 8300rpm, the oem tach only goes to 7000rpm, when driving the car I had to estimate when to change or take it to the limiter if I wanted to get the most from the engine, either method is not perfect. After much procrastination I decided on a SPA tach, this has shift lights and they can be configured to whatever you want. The SPA tach is not a direct fit to the 99 cluster so I needed to use a piece of 3mm acrylic to make up the mounting hole, the trial fit looks good, I just need to paint the adpater ring black and bond it to the cluster.
