Yes Jim it would make a nice present to someone who loves their cars or in fact a pet or anything, it's a bit different.

Hi Mike, oh well grey is better than rust colour :D does it need a lot of welding?

Ian, I won't really know until I get it stripped right down to bare shell, but From what I can see it doesn't look like needing too much, time will tell..
Transmission tunnels seem ok, battery tray and underside are needing replaced, a rear arch repair, but that's as far as I know for now, also got it as a non runner with some bits missing so don't know about engine and box.. (Couple pics when I got it) I've removed them spotlights..!!
Wanting to get a 96 done 1st as I think that will be easier..

I like that colour and I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures once you start, I have made a few jigs etc to make certain bits so if you need any help give me a shout.

That's really smart. Only question I have is that I thought the official top speed figure was 217kmph or 135mph? I'll need to drag out my old owners manual to see what it says.

Thanks Angus, well I took it from an official Saab catalogue, there was an other brochure that said the top speed was 130 mph but I decided to err on the side of caution :D

That's a really nice display to have, Ian. 8)

There was always a lot of variation in the claimed top speed. 130 is what I have in my head for the 1984 3-door, but I recall the 9000 was claimed to do 137 and this is both lighter and has less frontal area....possibly more drag though, the 9000 was very slippery.
I've been in the back of a 1985 9000 turbo driven by a pro racing driver at 130+ (on a b-road, don't ask...) and it was still pulling like a train...so either way, I'd be pretty sure a good un would touch an indicated 140...again from memory (and therefore may be wrong), the top gear ratio was 24.4mph/1000 rpm so 130 is about 5300 - that's definitely believable, it's still below peak power.

Amazing work, car looks fantastic.

Can i ask what spring and tyre combo you're running in that last picture? I had a skim through the thread but couldn't find the setup (nice VW btw!).

Thanks.

Hi JonoSaab, thank you for your comment, I put on Lesjofors which I think lowered it by 15 mm and B6 Blistein shocks and 195x55x16 on super Aeros with an adjustable panhard rod.

Ian

Hi,Dr Rock, thank you for the comment. The panhard rod was made adjustable to allow the axle to be centred after lowering the suspension as when you lower it, the axle sits too far to the drivers side.
I hope this explains it for you.

Ian

Thanks Ian, glad you said 195 55's, there seems to be a more interesting tyre choices and they look a lot more right to me than 50's series in 195. I'm using Saabits T16 spec springs so I'm hoping rubbing won't be an issue. The pan hard rod is interesting but as mine is stock height I'm not sure it'd benefit me, did you keep the F-ARB and how's the overall ride on that setup?

Hi Fraser, I did most of the work on the panhard rod myself but got a mate at work to TIG weld it, yes JonoSaab I still have the original one, as for the ride, its firm but not too hard.
