I've been looking for a good 2dr aero for a long time, this one came up quite local on Ebay so I put in a bid and won it. It's a bit rougher than I would've liked as I believe prevention is better than cure but it is totally unmolested albeit slightly neglected and unloved, it's spent the last 5 years of it's life in Scotland and the salt doesn't do them any favours.
Here's a few photos of the beast, as it arrrived home, and the shell partially stripped, at the moment I'm working on the engine and gearbox.

I'll get more photos up as it progresses.
Ian

Yes I' m his Dad, well I got the blame for it, I suppose it's my fault that he is into Saabs as well, he was brain washed from an early age.

Hello Ian

Great to see you've got yourself a project 900 mate

It looks like you haven't wasted any time getting stuck into it.

What's the plan? Restoration? Modification?

Chris.

Nice to see a 2dr in the projects section, my favorite C900 body style especially as the T16S.

I'll be following this with interest.

Thanks for the interest and encouragement.
Chris, I'm going for a restoration but it won't be 100% authentic as I'll be replacing as many fixings and fasteners, jubilee clips with stainless steel, also making turbo/distributor guard, battery guard and turbo stay from stainless steel, 16" aero alloys. It's a car I want to be able to restore and then use and it still to look well for many years..
This last week I've been dismantling and cleaning the engine and a replacement gearbox my son had in stock, I've kept the type 7 primary drive from my original box.

Does anyone have any advice for giving my aluminium castings (gearbox, inlet manifold etc) a bright finish that will last? I've been using degreasers and fine wire brushes cleaning it up...
Here's a few photos taken today.

Quick update, I've been working my way through the engine stuff, cleaning/painting/replacing as necessary, replacing bolts and clips with stainless steel where possible. Here's some photos of a few bits I've made(turbo water pipe and turbo support bracket). I'm currently working on the turbo heat shield below the distributor.

Cheers Norman, welcome anytime for a coffee and a blether, looking forward to seeing yours..
Here's an update of some of the parts i've been fabricating:
Intercooler stand, the part that sits under it, looked easier to make than to repair, all mild steel parts will be blasted, treated with Phos clean(Rustbuster) and given a two pack epoxy finish
Image022 by john Law, on Flickr

The next was the oil cooler housing, this was very rotten and again seemed easier to replicate than repair, a bit of work making the compound curves in some of it,

The turbo/distributor heat shield was made from stainless, I made one from a thin gauge stainless but it was too flimsy to work with, so I started again and made one with the correct thickness sheet..

Thank you for your comments and encouragement, I have repaired Saabs in the past and used to do the odd damaged repairable MK1/2 Escort, they were easy to work on and were simple compared to Saabs, they are so well made and have so many different components you need a lot of space to store everything, I often look at it sitting there in a million bits and think what have I done, but I believe if you are going to do a job it's not worth doing unless you do it right, or to the best of your ability.
