They are normally in your outbox until the recipient reads them.

The above is correct.

Another possibility (based on personal experience!) is your sent items folder is full. You will need to clear it out to resolve the problem.

my in and sent box are empty enough - but the recipients may not be?

Got the same problem, very annoying as have pmed sellers about items and not heard back, then realised the mail never got through.

How would I know if my sent items folder is full?

I have got several mails in my outbox, one from a couple of months ago and one from last year - but one I sent last week got through, so certainly not all due to a full sent folder...

150 should be the max in each box. When you go into the mailbox list it tells you how many at the top of the page.

The sent box automatically deletes the oldest messages, so that will not be a problem. If the recipients inbox is full, it will tell them, so they can delete something to make room.

The only reason a message will stay in your outbox is that the recipient has not opened it, for whatever reason, either they have not logged on or the don't want to read your message!

Tried to send PM but they're stuck in the Outbox. Why's that?

They will stay there until the receiver reads it.

I've got some messages stuck in my outbox - I'm not at my 100% limit of storage and have just deleted some more messages.

Any ideas / suggestions.

It's because the recipients of your messages have not read them yet i believe.

I'd be surprised if the Outbox was part of the storage limits.

As the mods may read this, can you get messages deleted from your Outbox. I have 1 message in there sent back in January to a member who hasn't logged on since. It's not a problem, just curious.

Covered countless times in the past, hence the sticky in FAQ.

Click on the message in your outbox and you will be able to delete it yourself (blue X bottom right).
